Had a chat with Mike Webb and Debbie Harrison at the Eastern Docks yesterday morning, who were on their way to the Dover-Calais festival of sport.
Just wondered how it went?
Cheers,

Why was this not advertised loudly and proudly around the town in the last few weeks?

"Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength,
While loving someone deeply gives you courage" - Laozi
Exactly.

Well...I have some good friends on the Dover Town Council and of course I dont want to fall out with them, well not toooo much anyway..but honest to gawd they seem incapable of raising publicity about anything.
Nobody will have known about this Festival of Sport nor that we had Deputy Mayor/Town Clerk/Assorted Councillor representation over there in Calais. Nor will any of us get a press release about it.
Does anyone know that our Mayor Sue Jones was recently inaugurated as Speaker of the Cinque Ports, does anyone know about their recent event were they presented Civic Awards...and so on and so on...
...we all know now about their recent public meeting where nobody at all turned up because nobody knew it was on. The councillors went to the pub, because the meeting had to be abandoned when no one came...these are the rules.
For Gods sake..................

i haven;t seen any advertising about the bleriot evening(tomorrow night) except for on here.
just one person for about 10 hours a week could trumpet and poster about all events in the town quite easily.
It's pathetic. No-one at any level in local government seems able to do the basic stuff. Absolutely rubbish. For goodness sake, let's have an overhaul.

8th June Free Talk on Bleriot Celebrations
A series of spectacular events is set to take off for the Dover 2009 Bleriot centenary celebrations - and to make sure everyone is being kept fully up to speed, a special free public evening is being held in Dover Town Hall on 8 June from 7pm

These events must have been advertised somewhere, the civic award adverts were in local paper, and as regards Festival of Sport, this was in Dover life Magazine, Dover has been well presented though, about 20 teams in all, I must admit more publicity is needed not just in the window of the Offices, I will ask at next events meeting

Over here everything and I mean everything from a Parish meeting to this weekends Vintage Car Rally and Hill Climb is advertised in a Whats On glossy brochure which is available free in every pub restaurant hotel shop etc.
Dover should have a central advertising pillar at both ends of the High Street where posters and public notices could be displayed.Hopefully after a teething period townsfolk and shoppers will check it out on a regular basis.

I think therefore I am (not a Tory supporter)
Good Plan Marek! I don't really see why it doesn't already happen..........................and reach-outs in schools and other groups and gatherings.

I've said before and have discussed it with a local printer, that there should be a big re-usable "across-the-road" banner outside the Town Hall and one down at Cannon Street, by the Market Square, promoting up and coming events.
When that event is over, the letters on the banner can be changed for the next event.
