Dover carnival selection
- 27 April 2008 17:031752I had planned to go to the selection for a new carnival court but I have some home issues (Boy has really surpassed himself this time). So, if anyone took a beautiful picture of our new court is it possible to email one to me at newsdesk.doverexpress@krnmedia.co.uk
I want to make sure it goes in for this coming week. For those of you who made it there, how did it go?
Was there a lot of entrants and do we have a fab new queen and princesses?

We had a fantastic evening last night which was enhanced by Natascha winning the title of Miss Rosebud against some very good competition.I cannot describe how proud I feel ..but thats cos I am a softie..I would like to thank Mandie and all her helpers for a super evening.A thank you to John Goodwin who put his name down to sponsor Natascha along with Barry Friend, Mike Hammond and Doug Green.Thanks guys it means so much to my wife and I.
OK I am off to Philippines tomorrow ,Tuesday, but it was well worthwhile changing my departure date so as to be present at last nights Carnival selection evening. Oh my head...

Jan you are quite right. I don't think I will ever hear a speech as funny as the one saskia made. At one point there was not a single breath between words bless her. 2007 court THANKYOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART.

It was a packed house at the Town Hall on Sunday, enhanced by some lovely VIP guests, and visiting courts from as far away as Corby. I hope this is not seen as advertising but I would like to say a huge thankyou to the Park Inn for looking after Miss Corby.

It was hard work, but I think it all went really well, with a final stand down from the 2007 court that could soften the hardest of hearts. I must apologise to the Mayor for leaving him on a chair in the middle of the dance floor. I know he saw the funny side.
Last but by no means least. Thankyou to everyone that helped me on the day. The list of those who helped in some way is endless, but I know I could not have done any of it without you, so from me to you THANKYOU!
Thankyou all, and I am sure that the 2008 court will do a wonderful job for Dover in the coming months and are already very excited about getting out and about.

Well I must also say Congratulations to our Delightful Daughter Saskia who had us all in stiches with her wonderfully funny and most entertaining standing down speech. She can certainly work a stage and not to mention talk for England and Ireland combined! She will miss her Carnival pursuits and i'm sure she will be missed. She had a great year. A big Well Done to Mandie and all her Helpers and what a beautiful photo of Natascha and her Daddy and of course Charlie.
- 29 April 2008 17:081816Saskia now holds the DCAL record of fastest speech, and funniest speech. It was one of the most hilarious things I have ever heard.
I sure am gonna miss her, especially her serious blonde moments, but I am sure she will be about, as she has told me to call on her whenever I need a hand, and trust me . I will.

The outgoing court had me in fits of laughter and blubbing through their stand downs, Saskia's speech was pure class and will be remembered by all.
It was great to be a part of it all and our little Rosebud Natascha is a gem! It was nice to meet Marek at last!
I wish all the girls in the new court the very best for the coming year, I am sure Mandie will keep you busy and you will be great ambassadors for Dover.

Last night I attended the selection night for The Court of Kent.
Within carnival it is seen as the premier court of the county, and something many carnival girls aspire to when they have finished their time on the carnival circuit.
I know you will be as pleased as I was when I tell you that 2 of DCAL's former court members made it onto the court for 2008.

Were both award the position of Princess.
A first for DCAL, having 2 girls make it onto the court at the same time, and only the 2nd time any DCAL girl has gained a place.
I am incredibly proud of the girls they did Dover proud.

The Mercury did a lovely set of shots of the new court, but the DE. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm You could almost see the pic if you looked closely.
DCAL will also be in the pageant, so really looking forward to that, and having the camper van take part would be awesome. The kids will love it. - 5 May 2008 11:321895This Thursday. We were tight on space last week but I wanted to make sure something went in and my boss said we could do more for this week. There is also a double page spread on Dover carnival through the years as part of our 150th anniversary celebrations, lots of help from Karol for that one!
We will definitely bring the camper to the carnival although we probably won't be able to drive it with the procession because you have to have special insurance don't you? - 5 May 2008 12:581896DCAL has insurance which covers the participants in the parade up to 5 million. Not sure if that will cover you.

Karol is a real Carni guru, so can give oodles of info on past Miss Dover's. Natascha was sooooo funny when we went shopping, especially while we are standing in New Look, and I suggested going down to Dotty P's to see what they had.
Natascha calmly but fairly loudly explains "GREAT IDEA, THEY HAVE 50 % OFF" Much to the dismay of the New Look staff, but a classic in my book. Adorable in every way marek, a credit to you both.
