15:1114468I think true supporter is one like i and many others were yesterday.
At Ramsgate with Dover playing well below par
Dover ground out a 0-0 draw away to Ramsgate, in the freezing cold
I shivred throughout the 90 minutes
going to watch the highlites i a mo to see the incident of the Dover player sent off.
but again Dover picked up a point, where in seasons gone by would have lost.
COME ON YOU WHITES!!!!!!

15:4414469It was one of those days Keith where at the end of the day we will be happy to have come away with the point. There was no chance of us being able to play the football that we like to. The combination of the pitch, the wind, being down to 10 men for alot of the game and the Ward brothers intimidation of the referee and the lino was just to much. So roll on next week.

18:2014475Good luck to the WHITES
but also good luck to the fans. It takes a hardy soul to stand out in this weather for 90 minutes plus, with the arctic wind whistling up yer rafters! You two guys are clearly hardy resilient types. I used to do it once upon a time up at Crystal Palace, all weathers night and day, to see the likes of Alan Birchenall and Gerry Queen.

19:4414484Could do with some proper stands at Ramsgate, it's always freezing there and the wind blows right through you. They haven't got a posh new clubhouse either!!! I think we should get extra points just for that (does my lack of footballing knowledge show?!)

20:5914498That says a lot Keith.
TOOK MY LIFE IN MY HANDS ONCE.
Bad crowds and overpaid ponses.
I think I'll stick to rugby and cricket.

08:1914512Ah...Gerry was our gangly legged striker at Selhurst Park. Not one of gods gifts to football, not when it came to the ball at his feet, but good in the air and could strike the ball with the best of them. Those were the days when tall ball headers were all the rage and wasnt it Tony Hately who became the first £100,000 footballer. He couldnt play all that well either on the floor but in the air..great!
We bought , Im relying on distant memory here, Alan Birchenall from Chelsea and he played alongside Gerry Queen for a while but more or less replaced him then. Gerry was Scottish...not sure what became of him after that.
I remember cold winter days.. shivering in the stands with me Ginsters Pie, a nibble here a bite there trying to keep warm, and calling out at the top of me lungs with everyone else..eeeegullls eeeegulls ( yes we were the eagles at Crystal Palace soaring to dizzy heights..ahem!) George Best came with Manchester Utd one time and as I remember they gave us a 5-1 stuffing. Sobering. We didnt hit the dizzy heights that day.

16:2414552I took my girls to see a match at the Palace,it was the game after Cantona joined the Crowd, and they were playing Southampton,My eldest was going of to Wembley with the School and I wanted her to taste the atmosphere.
After the game I asked if they wanted a Scarf each and they said they did,I said Palace or the Saints, both replied Manchester United. So there they were with thier Man Utd scarfs on when we went to the train station. On one side of the platform were hundreds of Southampton Supporters and on the other were thousands of Palace Supporters and Me and my 2 daughters in Man Utd Scarfs.
But I can beat that,I ran a football team in Dover for 20 years and one of our players in laws moved to Nottingham and they challenged us to a game in Nottingham. So we jumped into the mini-bus at 9 in the morning and arrived in Nottingham in the early afternoon.
What shall we do now they asked.Well forest are at home and tickets were available so we jumped into the Mini bus and headed for the game against West Ham,there was plenty of space in the West Ham end and things were fine until my players took off thier coats,it was the first time that in the West Ham end was seen 5 Spurs shirts 1 Arsenal and my Everton shirt, luckily enough 1 of our players supported the Hammers.
We won the game as well 7-2 the Forest v West Ham game ended up 1-1.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

i now remember gerry queen, a cross between peter crouch and niall quinn.
remember old shirley birchenall too, he used to take some stick down at upton park.
i am sure that it wasn't tony hateley that was the first 100 grand player though, might have been old greavsie.
mark hateley later came along, a carbon copy of his dad, just stood flat footed in the penalty area and banged the headers in.
the den was always my favourite away ground, west ham and millwall supporters have always had a certain affinity with each other.
the irons had a knack of getting a last minute equaliser against the home side. this always led to much banter after the
the final whistle.
always along the lines of "what ho, a good craic today chaps, we must do it again sometime", or something very similar.

19:5714642 lol!!
Ah yes there were some hard nuts around those days. The Millwall Den had a hell of a grisly reputation but the Manchester Utd guys were pretty rough too...the red army. These were the days of wide scale hooliganism and the match itself was only half the occasion. I came across both sets of fans and lived to tell the tale !
I think Jimmy Greaves was a £99,000 transfer as the powers that be felt a £100,000 tag would be too much for any player to carry. I think Im remembering that right but of course through the fog of time, and Tony Hately a few years later when affluence increased took the mantle without a burden. I wonder if Harry is about he will remember all that Im sure.

Jimmy Greaves went to Spurs for £99.999 because they did not want to be the first £100.000 player and it was Bill Nicholson who signed him and was there from 1961 to 1970.
Oh and he was was twice in there FA Cup winning sides.
Jimmy Greaves was one of the best goal scroungers there was around at that time

00:2514664spot on harry, it was when he came back from italy.
he played for chelsea, spurs and west ham, when he was asked who he played the best for, his reply was "spurs fans would say spurs,"chelsea fans would say chelsea" and west ham fans would say "spurs and chelsea".
i saw him in a bar at the old wembley stadium at the 1975 cup final, wearing a west ham away shirt, he was totally urinated and smelt of similar, getting drunk with the west ham fans before kick off.
it was years later that we knew of his alcohol problems.
