who said that our industry is drying up.
police today discovered a cannabis factory in russell street, 100 plants there plus all the usual lighting gear.
pity that roger did not still have his loyalty scheme going.

you would think that paul would be aware of this business ian.
some of the russell street customers have floated over the gateway flats.
Yes but what happens to my donations to the hanging baskets - they go up this weekend in honour of marek. I am missing the main plants....
The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind.....................

Well, isn't that wonderful, to put up plants in honour of Marek !!!
On the second line David, did you mean "missing the main plants", or "missing the man's pants" ???

the list is endless.
people clearing out the river(not getting paid).
opening up the western heights for visitors(not getting paid).
clearing up dog toffee left by pleb dog owners(done now and again, but paid).
clearing human toffee from laybys(as above).
hope that clarified things.

Sorry I missed you Marek, I was at a Council meeting, Jean had been collected and dropped off, I must have missed you by about 10 minutes - are you in Town today for a quick one (drink !!).
Great industries there Howard, thank you for reminded us.
I can think of some industries that we should be working on - tourism for one, opening up the cruise welcome group for another and having/allowing small business down at the cruise terminal, selling their wares and souvinirs etc.
Other Cruise Ports do it - every one on the Baltic States cruises - they realise the potential, it also raises the cruise passengers' view of those Towns that offer that little bit extra.
Better co-ordination amongst local retailers when the ships are in, maybe the cafe's etc. opening say 08.00 instead of 09.00.
A proper tourist bus taking people to all the Dover tourist attractions, not just those in Town, but places like Crabble Corn Mill and the Transport Museum, both of whom need a large injection of visitors.
Roger
Spot on Roger - I posted on another thread (but I think someone thought I was whining!) that cafes are not customer responsive in their opening hours - about time they woke up and smelled their own coffee!!

You make a good point there Roger, just inside the cruise terminal concourse in Amsterdam, local traders had set up some stalls and were doing brisk business as passengers passed through on their way into town.

When we got off the cruise in Amsterdam I bought a very nice original oil painting from one of their many stalls as well as some bits and bobs for the girls. Dover Cruise Terminal should do this too, people are looking to buy souveniers at the terminal all the time.
Talking about cruises, Roger I hope you and Jean have a wonderful holiday
Happy Belated Birthday Marek! You kept that one quiet, get you back for that on Monday!

You could add the three pits.
Buckland Paper Mill.
Does Avo/Megger still exist?
LFB still exists, at Coombe Valley.
Paper, steel and coal all gone within the last 20 years, and replaced by what?
The White Cliffs Experience was supposed to be the answer from DDC's visionaries to this de-industrialisation. How did that work out, anyone?
Still, at least the retail sector didn't decline in parallel with the industrial.

getting back to rogers point about the cruise passengers being unapproachable, who actually is in charge and makes the rules?
is it the harbour board?
