Go to youtube, steam dover, and click onto the steam in Folkestone and Dover in the 1920s. Last`s about 5 minute`s, all Folkestone to start with, but then Folkestone Warren Halt, along to Abbotscliffe tunnel followed by Shakespeare tunnel with all the original building`s showing alongside. Out of Shakespeare tunnel, along the beach, and then shot`s of Hawksbury Street, complete with steam train and Dover tram running alongside, Dover Marine, Dover Priory, a busy Shakespeare beach with swimmer`s (?), and shots of the channel ferries in Wellington dock. I`ve seen much cine film of Dover over the years, but this lot I never knew existed, and the quality for the period is mind blowing, and you can of course enlarge it on screen and pause it to view any details. If you love Dover, you`ll watch this clip over and over. There`s even a shot of the Dover Pilot tied up in dock. Like to know what you reckon on it.

Thanks Marek. I wonder where these gems came from, and how much more is about? I think it`s Strond Street that tram`s running along.

Colin, what did the Pilot do so wrong that he was tied up for. I thought that sort of behaviour was stamped out years ago?

There`s a clip in the film just before it shows the Priory station sign which I thought could have been the old Dover Town station, being the 20s, but on pausing it carefully, you can view the Priory hotel through the Priory station infrastructure. Each time I view it, I find another detail of interest in the background. Glad you enjoyed it Sid.

What a fantastic film
Just look how the Admiralty Pier was used (about 5mins in film) and should be restored to this level by DHB in particular if T2 takes away Prince of Wales Pier.
Excellent. I really enjoyed that. Many thanks Colin.

Me too Paul. Though I love the steam railway from childhood memories, it`s how much the background scenery has changed so much in places which makes it all so interesting. It`s why these `Then and Now` books are so popular, on many subject`s, including railways...... It is a fantastic film as you say Pat, and glad you enjoyed it too Bob. Have to keep my eye`s open for anymore.
