Well here is a conspiracy theory for you.
The comment from Button on the ‘DDC Finances’ thread suggests he/she may have spotted what I did when the link on the ‘DWDR spin off’ thread didn’t work.
This is on the following DHB link
http://www.doverport.co.uk/DWDR
This clearly shows that there are no real plans for the DWDR, except the transfer of the cargo facilities from east to west docks areas. It doesn’t even need the new marina to be built.
With the rest of the docks simply being an “opportunity” for development.
So the DHB are not offering any jobs and don’t appear to have the money to progress anything.
BUT WAIT.
DDC are exploring a £200M loan “opportunity”!
Didn’t the DHB say that DWDR was around £200M?
But remember DDC have been pushing for a new sea front town centre.
Are the DDC confident that following the almost successful delivery of the DTIZ they can go on to bigger and better things like the DWDR???
And that gives you the customers for the cable car.
Just saying!!!!!!

The "opportunity" to develop the promenade area was just a con that most people saw through. DHB floated the promise of boutique style businesses setting up there - in other words people would open restaurants and wine bars looking out at cargo sheds and listening to the fork lift trucks going about their business.
Wasn't there supposed to be a new pier being built, doesn't seem to be on the link above?

The outer wall of the new marina has a small walkway on it and I think this is what they are calling a pier now.
So I assume (and it is only an assumption) that this gets built if the new marina gets built.
As the originally promised logistic centre (and the 600 jobs) etc is now only an opportunity the need to fill in the Granville docks etc is no longer certain and is not on the programme above.
I'm assuming (and again it is only me making an assumption) that the new marina and its pier are not necessarily certain to happen.
They don't appear to be needed for the relocated cargo facility.
I'm sure that once the DDC get their £200M loan much of this uncertainty will be clarified (that last statement is of course me joking in line with the theme of the thread - Conspiracy theory) and we will be notified accordingly.

I take it back the new pier is still on that chart for completion 2019, the marina curve will be closed off most of the time for health and safety reasons.
Funny how that 200 million smackers figure keeps appearing our Charlie mentioned that as a figure from central government for extending grammar schools. The problem is that he wants some of that spent in Deal which doesn't have a grammar school.

And here's the article referring:-
http://www.kentonline.co.uk/deal/news/200m-fund-raises-hopes-for-116670/
(Apparently Phil had gone to the loo in the HofC leaving Charlie alone in the office and came back to find him talking to the East Kent Mercury on the 'phone! Charlie's now been firmly told not to come out with any more of his 'brilliant ideas' until he's at least run them past his office staff and Jamie now unplugs and takes the 'phone with him whenever he leaves the office in Walmer on Fridays)

I can't see how the intentions in the paragraph below can be achieved, the A20 is a fact of life and other than building a landbridge which was spoken of years ago. The rest is rather vague on detail - "improving existing connections" and "new proposals will also be considered" etc etc
Improving connections and public realm from Dover Waterfront to the Maison Dieu (Dover Town Hall) and Dover Priory railway station is a core objective. Part of the strategy will be to propose solutions to reduce the severance caused by the A20, which is already being enhanced by the Port through junction improvements, and issues connected to the underpass. As well as improving existing connections, new proposals will also be considered for connecting Dover's historic assets including Dover Castle and the Western Heights.

Several years ago I was involved with the group of people that wanted to build the cable car, it was entirely funded privately. For reasons unknown DDC waved them away.

Tim Ingleton, Head of Inward Investment, Dover District Council, said: "The vision for this key part of Dover is to create a more welcoming, contemporary image that better connects people and places whilst retaining the distinctiveness for which Dover is world renowned."
Barbara Buczek, Director of Corporate Development, Port of Dover, said: "The Port is committed to delivering Dover Western Docks Revival, including an exciting waterfront transformation that will be a catalyst for creating Destination Dover. Ensuring that the local benefits of this major opportunity are maximised through additional masterplanning to improve connectivity is a further demonstration of our commitment to deliver for Dover."

They can not do that us mere mortals might understand and not agree with their waffle, officialdom in all its forms would not like that.

Just on tourism or things to do,
I recall plans drawn up by a Cllr on a bowling alley for Dover from 3 different private companies no cost to the council.
it got thrown out before It started
and the Cllr left soon after fed up with a council not wanting to look forward

I believe they have attended the Professor Stanley Unwin school of plain english.
To help I have run this through my bull shine translator and it comes back with -
TI says, My boss told me this is a really good idea so we'll throw money at it and s0d the locals and the rest of the town.
Whilst BB says, I've got a gold mine of a job dealing with these muppets, they'll believe anything.

There's been 4 bowling lanes in Dover since the 80's (or before). Pity they aren't being used.
Still there I suppose?
