So the dispute hots up as to whether or not there should be a cemetary in Elms vale road.
My own personal opinion is thatim not over bothered either way in fact i support a cemetary at this time.
a campaign has begun in E lms vale road.
i'm of the opinion it would be better a cemetary than more housing purely personal view.
What do others think?
Why would there be a problem with having a cemetary?

Beats me guys. I would rather have that than extra housing.
Maybe something to do with the high walls they build around them, people are dying to get in.

About 6 years ago I said that we are running out of burial spaces in Dover, all the current sites are either full or nearly full, the choices were new site,or dig up the current occupants and use the graves again, the problem is cemetarys just can't go anywhere, they have a problem near the water table.
It would make Elms Vale the dead centre of Town

Let Jeane design it, and maybe she`ll move down here among us?
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.
A friend of mine was a grave-digger on Canvey Island, which has a very high water table. I remember him telling me they'd sprinkle grass cuttings on the water in the grave in case anyone looked in, and then they would lower the coffin very carefully so as to avoid the "SPLOSH"!

sid,i bet your friend had a dead end job.
You're probably right Brian

, but he reckoned the money was good due to a lack of competition for the job.
Isn't the elms vale playing fields the site where the plague victims from Dover were buried ?

i dont think so,i have been told it somewhere near the old borstal aycliffe side.
Cant see the problem of a new cemetary in Dover, they are always going to be needed as one day everyone of us will be there its also personal choice either get buried and be eaten by the animals underground or be cremated and have the local road sweeper clean you up if the wind blows in the wrong direction.

Spot on Mel. I'm all for dust myself, after all the Rev says, "ashes to ashes, dust to dust", not "ashes to ashes, worms to worms".

i cannot see any reason for opposing a cemetary, usually plenty of parking spaces within the grounds.
other than funerals during the week, sunday would be the busiest day, when people visit to place flowers.

HOWARD
And sunday is busy in that area anyway so wouldn't be much change.
looks like the anti campaigners Mr Sedgewick has an uphill fight on his hands, but lamp posts got posters on them already no cemetary in Elms vale.
interesting,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Raealise your busy painting ROGER but as the ward cllr do you hold a view?
Seems okay to me chaps. Can we employ some East Europeans to dig the graves? I gather there's a few twiddling their thumbs up at the repatriation centre.
