00:168855Closely guarded secret???????????????? What was the point of that???
Jeez there are enough people running down our younger generation, and yet when they do something good, we get "It has been a closely guarded secret"
I just do not get that. How ridiculous

00:288859When it was first talked about I suppose they were not sure if or which children would be chosen .No doubt some peiople knew but not everyone in Dover .A bit like you Mandie getting that band you have to wait and see .No doubt the childrens class mates knew but not our Dover Express ??Still good to see them both .I shall be attending the one in River .

15:348874Nothing like me getting the band Sue. As soon as I was certain they were coming. I announced it. Why could it not have been the same way about the children.
As soon as it was confirmed. People told.
Just to silly really

16:098875Surely the important thing is to remember those who lost thier live for us,I missed the service today as I was 12 hr nights last night and tonight,it is the first time I have missed it in years, but if I have to work then I have to work, but that doesn't stop me remembering.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

16:508877It's a shame we weren't told as it would have been nice to make a bit of a fuss of the kids and show Dover representing the nation. Such a shame it was kept secret.
I had to miss the service too, first time in 6 years, but am babysitting and little one has a rotten cold.

16:508878Closely guarded secrets are the reason that no-one trusts the local councillors and events are poorly attended. It's pathetic.
This is not MI5 it's not James Bond it's about two local kids representing our town. Why couldn't we all been let into the 'secret' and the we could have all shared their happy moment together as a community.
I give up I really do.....
Mandie released her joyful news as soon as it was confirmed.I am sure she couldn't release it sooner for fear that it may not happen thus letting people down. There is no comparison.Well I am going to share a secret...I am now pouring a glass of vino collapso to drown my sorrows and despair.D stands for demolition of Dover.

17:378879Marek - you are right. What the hell was all that about secrets (and lies???) Perhaps people in responsible positions need to grow up. Enough already! Marek - I am ahead of you with the Vino Collapso!

18:468881It was nothing to do with DDC so get off that bandwagon .It was the Chief Excutive of Dover federation for the arts to inform the press or who ever not me .When Im told something in confidence I respect that .I only pointed out the children were on TV and we should be pleased about that .Not getting knickers in a twist .Be glad they were there and did us proud .Kathy you can contact the school and theres your story .Simple

18:478882When we have Royal visits we are kept in the dark until the last moment .Perhaps with these children best not to make them too nervous .Common Sense i think no lies .

20:448886I am very upset with what I am reading on this,
today of all days it is a time to remember our dead in the two world wars and of our army and R,A,F, still fighting today, please let us have just 24hrs to think about that and that only.
I remain yours faithfully Vic matcham
As I have wrote in the open page of this forum today I had the honour to read out the act of remembrance in my own church after the last post.
I shell now read it again hoping that it will stop and make us all think again about what went on and still is in our upside down world.
THEY SHELL NOT GROW OLD,
AS WE THAT ARE LEFT GROW OLD,
AGE SHELL NOT WEARY THEM,
NOR THE YEARS CONDEMN,
AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN,
AND IN THE MORNING,
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.
--------------------------------------
WHEN YOU GO HOME,
TELL THEM OF US AND SAY,
"FOR YOUR TOMORROWS,
WE GAVE OUR TODAY"
GOD BESS YOU ALL.

this is not a personal attack, people feel strongly about all authority in our town that keep things to themselves.
with regard to royal visits, the reason things are kept quiet is that the terrorists ne'er do wells and other miscreants in our midst may try to bump them off.
we all knew that royalty would be at the albert hall thingy, so why
the children?

21:578889I have just watched the festival from the royal Albert hall, and what do i read on the forum not how good it was to have young children from Dover being given pride of place at a national event. But people whinging because they weren't told. GET A LIFE AND SORT YOUR PRIORITIES OUT.If not stop moaning.

22:128890You may be right - you probably are. We need to remember people today, and I am. But don't underestimate the depth of feeling bubbling under in Dover about local authorities: it has seeped into this precious day quite wrongly - perhaps an indicator of how strongly people are feeling and thinking. We should stop for the rest of the day - but people in power should probably listen carefully.

22:468892Well said Vic and guzz, what I have read here is a disgrace.
Certain people should get their facts right, stop jumping to blame the wrong people and keep it for a more appropriate time.
9 November 2008
22:598893Guzzler I find your last posting insulting.
Did I not say something good about the children?

Unless I missed something I did actually say it was good that the children were involved. What I didn't get was that we were told about these fine youngsters being representatives until AFTER the event.
I DO HAVE A LIFE by the way, but I do not take kindly to the tone of your last posting and personally find it insulting.
I understand that rememberance day and the armed forces may be dear to your heart, but your posting assumes that the rest of us cannot be bothered and I am offended.

23:188894Everybody..chill for Gawds sake....an update I have finished my litre of wine and said my prayers for all those that died for us.Being a Catholic I can take great comfort from the fact that I believe in God and an afterlife and therefore can even take more comfort from the fact that they have all gone to a far far better place.
As for any disagreements on this thread I think they can be put off for another day without trading insults.
I am now looking forward to seeing the marching band.
