According to a post on Facebook, the fire damaged church at the foot of Priory Hill is going to be restored as a church.
Seems a bit surprising as it was no longer being used as a church and had been converted into flats which were just about to go on sale when it caught fire.
I was up on a nearby roof recently (delivering Milk Tray since you ask) and took the following photos of the damage.
Sorry about the first photo coming up twice but each time I try to delete one, it just makes the next photo come up double instead - something skew whiff with the forum photo uploader perhaps.

Thanks Ed. The stone-work looks in good condition and it seems to be just the centre part that has no roof, but I guess the damage inside must be quite extensive and costly to repair/restore. Do I remember that the developer didn't have adequate/any insurance and so went bust ?
I would also find it difficult to believe that it would be a church again - it's not as if our other local churches are at bursting point.

Seems highly unlikely to me also.
I was working in the shop on the day of the fire, it went from a little whisp of smoke to a raging inferno in such a short time. A great shame after so much work had been put into the regeneration of a derelict building..

about a year back there was a lot of work going on inside and skips were being filled outside, i was told by someone that the developer had eventually got a full pay out on his insurance and was recommencing work.
since then nothing.

this is one of keith's wind ups, similar stories abounded about the "orange tree" and "ancestors", we do not have a muslim community in effect. a few around but if they were devout they would live in a town with a mosque already there.

When I was in the shop most of the religious Christian style items went to the Eastern Europeans.

Has some work been to the outside of the church?
Comparing with Streetview, perhaps just tidied up & the boarding removed?
Just looked on the internet, the fire was September 2007.

We wondered about that last weekend. Is the brick retaining wall new? There are certainly some piles of bricks that weren't there before.

It has to be restored as a church, because as a church is how it fought back.
It needs to be fully decorated for bravery.
In fact, a true Dovorian Church of Kentish origin!

sorry alex, the planning consent is for conversion to flats, the developers/builders won't make any money otherwise.

There's an article in the Dover Express saying that the church is to restored by "Christ Embassy International".
