The plaques told an interesting story but they are only visible if the seats are not taken.

Well done Folkestone/ Shepway for organising a moving event that was many years in preparation. As a national venue you were a credit to East Kent & the role you played as the Port of embarkation for this tragic episode in history.

Thanks for those kind words Jan and Bob i have wondered why that section of the Leas had been cordoned off for many months.
I think the arch has struck the right chord in its simplicity and the atmosphere around it was very respectful, people thinking of the march down the hill, for some troops, the last they would see of England and others that survived traumatised upon return.

those who who came back injured came through dover,so not to frighten those who where going from Folkestone.

I wasn't aware until today that Walter Tull did not have a burial.

still missing after all this time,his name is on the arras memorial.but his brother and both parents are buried in cheriton cematry.
queen victorias grand son is buried in a comunial cematry in lieper.
