Growth Forecast: 50%+ year-on-year. Why the Tories don't make more of this is anybody's guess...

Pretty soon the areas north of Watford may be able to apply for Foreign Aid.

not so sure of the veracity of those figures, for instance the west country and wales has a high proportion of people using food banks whilst northern ireland has very few.
could always be that there are fewer facilities in the six counties.

Areas with a wide usage of Allotments and houses with large gardens will be areas where people may grow their own. Churches (of all varieties) may have been doing this sort of thing informally for years.
There is very little point in anybody viewing these figures, doubting them. These are neither Government figures or anti-Government figures.
Even the IMF sees that these figures can only rise, as it cries out for a change of direction from current Government Policies.

slightly off topic but i read this morning that the number of children arriving at school without having had breakfast is rising steadily leading to teachers dipping into their own pockets to supply cereal and toast for them.

"Hélder Câmara, an outspoken archbishop in Brazil who was shot in 1999, said: "When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why they are poor, they call me a communist." Translated into today's Britain, it might read: "When I run a food bank, they praise me for being a volunteer. When I ask why they are poor they call me a leftwinger." There is currently no chance of the dean of St Paul's Cathedral being called a leftwinger..."

If something badly needs doing...lets do it badly.
"Individuals and families will be supported to better their situation and try and avoid future financial hardship. It is anticipated that changes to the Social Fund, a crisis loan payment for those in immediate need, will lead to an increased need both in Dover and more widely."

Benefit cuts sends number of food bank users soaring
New figures emerge a week after Lord Freud, the Welfare Reform Minister, questioned whether
there was a link between the two events
Soaring numbers of people have sought emergency help from food banks since a series of
benefit cuts came into effect three months ago, it was revealed last night.
The new figures emerged a week after Lord Freud, the Welfare Reform Minister, questioned
whether there was a link between food bank use and reductions to benefits.
The Trussell Trust, which operates 325 banks, said it had supplied three days' emergency
food to 152,200 people between 1 April and 30 June, more than three times as many as during
the same period in 2012.
Fifty-two per cent of recipients were referred by frontline professionals, such as health visitors
and schools liaison officers, because of problems with their benefit payments. They include
19 per cent who were sent to food banks because of changes to benefit entitlements.

First Collector: At this festive time of year, Mr. Scrooge, it is more than usually desirable that we should make some slight provision for the poor and destitute.
Ebenezer: Are there no prisons?
First Collector: Plenty of prisons.
Ebenezer: And the union workhouses - are they still in operation?
First Collector: They are. I wish I could say they were not.
Ebenezer: Oh, from what you said at first I was afraid that something had happened to stop them in their useful course. I'm very glad to hear it.

It's working. We've just heard that there's been a big step forward in our campaign to make
sure children living in poverty get free school meals. Today the government's own advisors
have come out and said that too many children are going hungry and that this should change. [1]
Education secretary Michael Gove promised to 'investigate' and says he agrees in principle.
But we need action now. The school year is nearly over, but with changes to the benefits system
coming in the autumn, families are worried their children will go hungry. [2]
After today's report, Gove is already feeling the pressure. And the good news is that he's committed
to do something. So let's email Gove in our thousands now to make sure he acts quickly - before
it's too late.
Let's tell him: enough warm words, now's the time to make sure 700,000 children don't go hungry
on a daily basis:
