I remember in the past we had some great pictures of trains in from some of the guys..I remember a very good one from Scotchie taken I think from Samphire Hoe of The Golden Arrow steaming through at full pelt. I think Im remembering that right anyway.

And if people don't realise, Tornado is the new £3m steam train, the first new build for 50 years or so...
Been nice knowing you :)
Steam - I love steam trains! So many lovely memories of steam train journeys around the country, the smells and the scratchy seats, the flags and whistles. lovely!

Scotchie thanks for that bit of info, didnt realise that at all. How exciting!! Lets hope one of us can get a picture of it powering through.
I will see if I can find an old picture of one of our steam trains in the meantime.

Jeezez it took me ages to find this shot, all my pictures are all over the bloody shop since the transference to the new computer. Anyway..after a tranquiliser.
This shot is the Golden Arrow blasting through locally and I think it dates from 2007. It is either Scothie's or Ken Baker's formerly known as Vintage. Ken used to send in some great ones of Red Arrows and so on. Paul are you able to confirm. You got a cracker too but I cant lay my hands on that one for the moment..I think yours was taken at Samphire Hoe.

Trains....ahhh yes...here's one taken on Romney Hythe and Dymchurch line, the nearest we can get to the experience!
My son is looking like he just came back from the war! - it was on the 1940's day that it was taken.
Oh Boy!, That'll be the day.........

Where do we recommend going down to see it and get a good view? Western Docks? Would we be allowed on the platform to go and see it? I don't want to miss it!

Phil - on the viaduct to the W Docks is a popular spot as they slow round the bend and get a few different angles.
Been nice knowing you :)

nostalgia is a strange thing, when they were the normal method of travel, everyone complained about the steam, except that adulterous couple in brief encounter.
now we all love them.
i have to admit there is something romantic and adventurous about them.
like everyone else i will be down the station on sunday week.
paul is spot on about the vantage point.

Phil,
My husband (who is a train driver) says the best place to film her is at Martin Mill station as she comes up a gradient there and also there won't be so many people in your way!
She's due at Deal at 20.23 so should be around that time.
By the way there are quite a few videos of her on YouTube - certainly an impressive lady!
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

Is the Tornado the 'new' steam train which was the subject of a great documentary on tv a month or so ago. If I remember the boiler had to be built from scatch in former East Germany and other work being carried out in various countries, great tv viewing for all us steam buffs

Darn. I am away on my ferry and shall miss Tornado.
This is a five second video I took of Tangmere storming through Dover Priory three years ago (turn speakers up to full volume):

Tornado is featured on Top Gear on BBC2 tonight at 8pm with Jeremy Clarkson on the footplate racing the other two driving a Jaguar and a motorbike from London to Edinburgh.
