the above brought in by the last government for under 16s and over 60s has been cancelled.
the freebie will cease at the end of july, it was intended to go through till march next year.
the government estimates a saving of 40 million quid, apparently 83% of people polled would still have gone swimming whether or not they paid.

My understanding is that tory Dover council did NOT take part in this scheme
I am entitled to use this facility, but do not, as I suspect a large number of folks don't. Swimming is not expensive anyway, particularly if one is a member of the sports club providing the facility.
At the end of the day £40m is a bit stiff for a dip in the local pool. I feel better use could be made of this money.

are you sure about that keith, i thought the money went to all councils to pay for the scheme?
i clearly remember our susan moaning about it and wanting it stopped along with the free bus fares.

The Council only took the over 60's option,even though there was pressure from our side,then a Deal with I believe the Health Authority and Vista Leisure open up the pool for under 16's for a short period.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

Howard i saw Brian wearing it in somersfield. Brian my mum had it dry cleaned for the return to you but its shrunk a bit but sure howard will help you stretch it
