Its a great shame that the unions appear to have little or no teeth here anymore. Legislation passed by Mrs Thatcher as I remember resulted in many of their activities being hamstrung. At the time(1970's) of course unions perhaps had too much power and the legislation to curb their activities was welcomed fairly widely.
But the pendulum has swung too far the other way.
Take the case of the harbour job losses. Our MP Gwyn Prosser arranged for the union boys in this case to meet the Government Minister. Much earnest talk followed and so on...
But...
what would it have been like if the unions and everyone working in the harbour went on immediate all out strike to support the people losing their jobs. Wouldnt this fancy airy fairy notion of the Harbour Boards have been stopped dead in its tracks.
Strike action can be effective and works in many cases to achieve a fairer outcome.

Apologies I only caught the news whilst on the move but thought Invicta called them French workers. My mistake.

I am a socialist and proud of it but I didn't write anything detrimental in my post about the strikers. In fact the opposite..why not strike Friday and Monday therefore affording the poor worker a much deserved weekend break.

I think therefore I am (not a Tory supporter)
