i like that one from the undertaker that arranges "economical" send offs, conjures up a vision of a skip parked outside his shop.

Thanks Tom and Terry - not to worry Kath.
I'm sure our bungalow was built around 1960, so maybe the house was still standing then and flats were built much later.

From memory Roger I'm sure that the Bondover demolition and subsequent rebuilding was well after your separate area development.

Kath - can you post the image of Jacolette's shop, it looked amazing and the building is still there?

I take it that Jacolette's shop is now Halifax.

Do you think it was tarted-up like this all the time? Festoons aplenty.

Tarted up?
I think, in those days, most shopkeepers did their utmost to make their displays attractive, and display as much as possible, to attract custom.

Then, dear Kath, what more could they do for a special occasion?
It would have been Victoria's 80th birthday in the Summer of 1899.

I have been mulling this over Kath. Yes, the shop as pictured does seem to be decorated OTT, but I'm sure that Martin Jacolette & Co. would have made some effort over the summer season to stand out from the crowd. What with the Boer war running into difficulties and the military connections with Dover...there was money to be made.

Some time ago a friend gave me an album that he had found with old pictures in. Here's one, any ideas?
