Apologies to any road lobby people looking in here, but what happens on the railway is, most small jobs like the above are only carried out during engineering work on the line, and any contractor`s have to get their particular job done right first time, before the particular stretch of railway line is handed back to Network rail for running train`s again, or they`ll be paying penalties to the various train operating companies. It seems to me though that council`s aren`t too fussy on what outfit they hand a contract to. I well remember about 4 or 5 years ago, coming home from work through the Alkham valley one frosty Sunday morning around 7.30, a non council lorry dropping salt!!! The sun was just up, but what the hell was going on? Maybe they should`have been doing it hour`s earlier, but decided to have a lay in, but drop the salt anyway to fulfill their contract? This isn`t a one off story either.
