Nice to see the Ghurkas getting up and personal with the enemy!
May many more Taliban fall victim to the Kukri....
But the top brass have messed it up, instead of giving our Ghurka friend a medal they have called him back to the UK because apparently, by beheading, he has offended muslim sensibilities..... Tough let them do their job and keep on offending muslim sensibilities that way....
Come on Liam - haul the top brass over the coals for being so absurdly pc...

not sure offending the locals fits in with the mission objective to win hearts and minds

sounds like pay back, should be given a vc and promoted.the rest of troops should be encouraged to do the same.
Not sure why offending the locals comes into it - if he was defending himself or us, and this happened, job done.

i thought that beheading people was very popular amongst muslim terrorists and in fundamentalist countries.
reminds me of that old maxim "live by the sword, die by the sword".
How on earth does beheading offend Muslims? They're the masters of it. They probably perform more beheadings than just about anyone else. If even only one in one thousand Islamic beheadings are filmed and posted online then the real number must be staggering - as there are countless thousands of them online! A taste of their own backward culture if you ask me - hats off to that Ghurka geezer! Or, should I say, heads off if you're in the Taliban.

Barry the thing is the head was removed post mortem, they had been tasked to get a known taliban leader, due to being involved in a firefight they could not retrieve the body so he took the head. And on another point the head has been returned for burial. GHURKAS SCARY LITTLE BUGGERS.

Well thats logical and reasonable, dont you just love the Ghurkas! no messing about....
As for post mortem, so its OK to behead someone while alive but wrong when they are dead. I am sure the Ghurkas would be pleased to oblige!

In 1964 I was a member of C Squadron 16/5th Lancers and we were tasked with recovering 2 soldiers who had been buried up to their necks in sand and then beheaded by muslim insurgents in Radfan Aden(now South Yemen). Once recovered our troop commander turnrd all our tanks to the caves where the insurgents were known to be hiding and blasted way. In those days there were no television cameras following your every move and no trial by television or the media. I read in a book recently that our Radfan campaign was the last of it's kind, the last of our ability to fight based purely on military decisions and not political or political correctness.

Barry, I write on Suite 101, and cannot ruin it by preaching a war in Afghanistan or offending Muslim sensibilities! Our Lair Lady doesn't teach those tings!

Alexander. On the other hand, in the Apocryphal Book Of Judith, Holofernes is indeed de-capitated.

bob
that reminds me of a marty feldman sketch many years ago.
he is sitting in the waiting room at the vets.
everybody has a small basket containing a cat or a dog, not marty, he has this massive basket that he is trying to keep the lid on.
when it opens there is smoke, fire and an unearthly noise that emanates.
a chap asks him what is in the basket.
marty replies, i looked for it in the observer book of animals, then the observer book of birds, then eventually i found it in the book of revelations.
Howard, excellent. At School (it was that time) we always called him Farty Meldmann which we thought awfully witty.
It was from he that I learned 'the wages of sin are death, but the hours are good'.
Ghurka beheads a Taliban. Hmm, only one word from me on this, "GOOD!!!!!"

Lets have more of it, whats that old saying????? Do something wrong and heads will roll. Alive or dead.
Give the guy a medal. make him head boy.
grass grows by the inches but dies by the feet.
Ken has, if you'll pardon the expression, hit the nail on the head. With you Ken.
