I have a friend who had to move down to Dover back in January due to family reasons. He has tried so hard to get a job, any job, but to no avail. Back in Yorkshire he was an industrial cleaner but he will do anything, he just wants so badly to work. He has a partner who works part time and three children. I hate to see him trying so hard and often doesn't even get a no thank you in the post. This is a hard working man who wants to work, not one who is happy just to get a giro each week.
So ........ my question is, does anyone know of any jobs going? He can't drive but will do anything. Thank you x

Its a sad story there Jacqui. It is about time politicians in central government woke up and realised about the total lack of jobs down here. With Pfizer closing and now even the Dungeness power station closing it leaves us thin on the ground for large employers. Most governmental concern seems to head to the barren areas up north, but the affluent southeast isnt all that affluent everywhere.
The best bet I suppose is Canterbury , was over there the other day and its buzzing. There are even traffic jams, always a good sign of buoyancy as so many bods are trying to get to the shops and the sights. So there should be a chance of a job there.
Good luck to your friend

Ultimately PaulB governments do not create jobs, private employers do. All governments can do is make the environment a positive one for employers to expand and take people on. To do that we need to reduce the costs and risks of employing people.

Sadly, Peter is right, CMS is his best bet.
Ultimatly,This Government(any Gov) do have the ability to create jobs, Bombardier springs to mind and of course they have the ability to create unemployment, lots spring to mind on that one.

Yes Gary the last government created 700,000 public sector jobs in 13 years which the country can't now afford.

Has he tried Morrisons I know they are short staffed at the moment but that could be due to holiday leave. Good luck to him in his hunt.

Worse than that Peter, for every public sector job created you lose at least one in the private sector and also most jobs 'created' went to immigrants.

cannot remember the exact figures keith but both the government and the office for national statistics show that the vast majority of new jobs go to new arrivals.
needless to say employers love the supply of cheap labour.

what about the people that were earning decent money until the cheap labour under cut them keith?
the reds were only concerned about profits for businesses in the last 5 years of government.

howard;
i share parts of your view howard, as we and many posters have said the benefits system needs overhauling but there is no brave government to do so.
so instead many people dont work that could, thus we have todays situation

Howard
No such thing as 'cheap labour' thanks to the Labour party there is a national minimum wage that applies to both Brits and these ''so called'' immigrants.Everyone is free to apply.

if someone self employed was earning £.15 per hour then someone offers to do the job for about a third of the rate who will people use?
all the top reds have acknowledged that they let down their core support, hence dave and nick rule.
nothing to do with the economy or the deficit.

Peter,
My point exactly.
My comments were in responce to "Ultimately PaulB governments do not create jobs"
You both went on to slag Labour for creating jobs, so you must both agree the statement above is stupid.

If you replace 'do' with 'should' it makes much more sense.
