15:5837299Are you aware that through your employer`s, there are massive savings to be made if you want to buy a new bicycle for work or pleasure, plus accessories? I had a letter today from my employer, and for a layout of £160, I could have it all for £84, a 39% saving. In these times of no money about, where does the government find the money to pay for this? People who wish to ride to work will have a bike anyway, and people who don`t, may not want one. Bikes are cheap, so forgive me if I can`t see it, but does this make sense to anyone?

16:0737301This scheme has been around for some time and is tied to the desire to get people out of their cars and more active

16:1837303About 3 or 4 years I think it has been available and is quite a good offer, but good luck to them if they think I am going to bike from Deal to Ashford each day !!
Been nice knowing you :)

18:4737321Isn't this just another silly socialist idea ? Doesn't seem to matter how much they get into debt, there's always money to spend, even when the Country's finances are going down the toilet.

18:5037322i don't see anything socialist in it, david cameron uses a bike to get to work, frees up a bit of road space.
no one is forced to take part, it will only be of use on shortish commutes.

19:1137327I'm not talking about using a bike Howard, but that the Government are paying a large portion of the cost. Madness.
I don't think DC asked GB for money towards his bike.

19:1837328. Share a car, so why not a bike? Paul, find some other Deal folk to help you get there.

surely any incentive must be good if it more people out of their cars for some journeys.
makes it a lot easirr for people who need their cars for work.
incidentally david did not need to, he had his driver right behind him his car.

if more people cycled, and by so doing beacme healthier, what would the reduced costs to the health service be?

20:3137333Moulton are still making bikes by hand @ Bradford on Avon, plus the excellent Brompton is still made in the UK.
Neither are cheap, but both examples of great British engineering.
(O.K. I'm biased as I own one of each!)

08:2837382I agree Mark that cycling is good for people's health and other (environmental) reasons, but it shouldn't be the Government paying for them - that's the individual's responsibility.

14:3037415As already said this scheme has been out a long time and it was last year I did tell my boss about it.I think it is a great scheme and for most of the year it would work but the stoping point I feel are the companys on this.I did try where I worked at that time he is avery good boss but would not help out on this one. But the both of us love to get out on the roads we both have done the London to Brighton a few times and next year if my legs are O.K. I will be doing it again.I am still going over to the company I worked for and Again I will have a talk to him about doing it we have over 50 men working there and apart from one they all come by car, if we could get half of them to come by bike it would be a winner, some only live at the end of the lane but still come by car.
