I wonder how bad the inside is and also what the plan is from DHB, if any.

I am trying to remember how long the buildings have been empty for, at least 5 years to my knowledge. Maybe DDC can order DHB to tidy them up?

I'm fairly sure it works the other way around with DHB doing the telling!

Glad to see something happening, the town needs more residential properties, not just in Whitfield.

Plus the more residential properties there are close to the High Street the greater chance of shops there being successful.

These PDF links from DDC planning never documents never seem to work.
To get to it, go to the 1st link in post 6 and then go down to "Heritage Statement". It's worth reading.

I doubt it will, given the age and lack of decent historic maintenance the building is still structurally sound and the necessary works are what I would expect. If I was the developer I would be reasonably happy with that report.

When you see the awful condition of some buildings on Homes Under The Hammer it makes you realise almost any building in any condition can be a viable purchase.

Last we heard was that work would be starting in May but last time I went past it didn't look as if anything was happening.

He/she must have been satisfied as planning permission was given six months ago.

Condition 5 of the approval:
5 Prior to the commencement of works the details of mechanical ventilation or flues to be installed including location, dimensions, colour and material shall be submitted to and approved in writing by the Local Planning Authority and thereafter shall be carried out in accordance with the approved details:
a) Details of mechanical ventilation or flues to be installed including location, dimensions, colour and material.
b) 1:20 scale sections of the external railings their junction to and their relationship with the historic features.
Reason: In the interest of the listed building.
Why? Because they can, and council officers hate not to use powers they possess to hinder progress.
