I read an amusing thread by Mike Smithson on the website politicalbetting.com
It was all about the green custard attack on mandelson.
William Hill have opened a book on which dessert will be next to be thrown over a government minister.
Spotted Dick is their 3/1 favourite.
'Of course this should not be regarded as a trifling matter' said a William Hill spokesman
Rhubarb Fool is 5/1 third favourite
'It is a good job Mr Mandelson was not targeted by a protestor who preferred main courses to desserts, otherwise he may have ended up battered.' so said the man from William Hills....

each to their own.
Sid Pollitt
He was quite relaxed when interviewed soon after and was quite funny, he suggested that it might have been guacamole.

There is a serious side to all of this, put to one side the minister involved, but this person being able to get so close to a minister is worrying.
This could have been far more serious, could have something like acid?
I realise its part of this open ness but must be worrying?
Could have been, wasn't. That's that.

keith makes a very good point, i was stunned when i saw the news this evening.
where was the security, there are all sorts of nutters around that dream of being famous in broadmoor.
What an opening puddings offer to the publicity-hungry. Eton Mess could be chucked liberally over David C, and yelow custard draped over Vince Cable. Summer Pudding for the PM, as he won't last much longer than July, and a lovely Baked Alaska for Pres Obama. Any more for any more....?

I like my jokes and have no strong political persuasion, but I found this far from funny. I do not think it matters what it was that was thrown or at who it was thrown at. It was an assault and the woman should be charged and taken to court.
Just because you do not agree with someone's views does not give you the right to carry out such actions. We have freedom of speech we do not have freedom of personal attacks such as this.
I also find it strange that some that were on their high horses on other threads on racism appear to find this funny and condone it. So you must not use nicknames but you can throw custard over people. Strange.

I personally feel that this sort of childish and loutish behaviour unappealling and should I ever find myself in the position of a 'floating voter' (God forbid) then this type of action by any party would certainly discourage me from placing my X in their box on the ballot paper.

I think therefore I am (not a Tory supporter)

MAREK
Your correct, but there is also the security risk which is also important
For goodness sake - of course it was wrong!!! Why does having a (non-sexist non-racist non-violence-ist non-anti-human-rights-ist) laugh about it mean we condone it? Stand-up comics poke fun legitimately at all sorts of things, often in order to raise awareness of them. The throwing of the muck over Mandy was not funny, it was an offence. But we can still take the **** can't we?
I have just had another look at our postings - we have not used any language that might cause offence, nor have we belittled anyone, demeaned anyone, oppresseed anyone, or hurt anyone.

I never said you did cause offence Bern and I am sure I have not lost my sense of humour but I just think this sort of thing is not funny so sorry if I upset you.
What I would find funny is the lady (loose term) taken to court, convicted then given community service painting the fence of Heathrow Airport.

I agree that this is wrong and indeed the perpetrator should be prosecuted but that does not mean we cannot have a laugh over the incident.
Whatever happened to the once famous British sense of humour, once we could laugh at anything, even when being bombed by Hitler the Brits were making jokes about it. So lighten up people.

Never thought I would not have a sense of humour.

Just had a thought though would it have been just as funny if it had been David Cameron who got the custard instead of Mandelson.
I expect only time will tell as such acts are fast becoming the norm.
