Does anyone have a recommendation for a hairdresser I could use please? I have a fancy to try a new one!

I have been using Shumi, just along from Iceland, ever since Chic closed and am very happy with the way it is cut. There are several girls there but they work different days, I always have Ashley and tried another girl as well who was just as good.
I objected to paying the same high price when Chic moved to an area behind another shop up London Road. My daughter goes to Phillip and Jenny in Ladywell.
Good luck with the change, I hate having to find a new hairdresser it is so hit and miss finding one who can cut well.

dorttes in prioy street allways do my better halfs hair they seem to do a good job on it.
Brian - that was such a boy thing to say!!!!

Jan - I tried Shumi today and was pleased, the Old Man has yet to comment.......I too left the old Chic after it moved - originally went with them but left when, once too often, the kids were left to man the shop on a Saturday when I had an appointment and simply blasted out their choice of music despite it being just me and one other woman, combined age of about 350 between us and not, really not, interested in gangsta rap.

Bern, do you mean to say your "Old Man" notices, mine never did.
I am glad you liked it that is the important thing.

i go to folkestone nowadays where an east european couple do an expert job for the same price as the one i used for many years in dover.
always friendly and welcoming you don't have to wait for them to put their copy of the "sun" either.
no music, beautiful tank of tropical fish and state of the art equipment and furnishings.

I use Jaggerd Ends next to Vanes Nicola does a nice job. Nothing is to much trouble and you get a nice cup of coffee while you get your hair done.

We always used the Regatta hair salon at the then Churchill Hotel on the seafront. Gillian was the owner of the salon and an advertiser here on Doverforum. She is a great stylist and I would recommend her to anyone. She went travelling around Australia for a year and has recently returned to Dover. She is doing home visits so if anyone wants her number just drop me an email.
We had the luxury of having our hairs done at Harrods over the weekend as Gillian was doing some model styles for them. Briony and Saskia really enjoyed the day and me too. I love visiting Harrods, such a fascinating store full of surprises, as we went up one of the many escalators an opera singer was in full voice on one of the regal balconies. The hairdressing salon there was absolutely scrumptious. The price list was a bit of a shocker but luckily we weren't paying

When I was a florist at Harrods back in the 60s I used to go as a model for free, it only cost us the girl's tip. If we were really lucky we had a manicure as well while under the hairdrier.
Many a time we would get told off for taking too long a lunch break.

So you were a florist at Harrods and in the 60's Jan, must have been great working there. What was Harrods like then, has it changed much since the 60's?

At that time it was all show out front and very basic behind the scenes. I received the grand total of £6.10s less tax and NI for a five and a half day week ending up doing the flower displays for the windows as well as for customers, I was never very good at wreaths for some reason but loved doing the bridal items. My main claim to fame was serving Prince Philip's mother who was a lovely unassuming lady as well as other minor celebrities. I remember having to go by tube to deliver some white orchids to Nubar Gulbenkian and not getting a tip, so now you know how he made his millions.
I left there about a year after completing my training to work in my future father-in-law's pub where I got paid £7 after deductions for a five day week. Guess why I left Harrods.

Sean at Charmaine's is very good. However, I have Becky who comes to me and is very good and incidentally quite a lot cheaper than a salon.

Great reading your story there Jan about your working days at Harrods. You obviously met a lot of celebs whilst working there, had a chuckle about Nubar Gulpenkian's white orchids delivery, what is it they say, 'look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves', that was obviously his policy or perhaps he was just plain mean

That's fascinating Jan. I must admit I love Harrods too. Found myself sat next to Mohammed Al Fayed at a 'do' a few years back. He was actually incredibly funny.
