DDC Release ****
*********
HAVE YOUR SAY AT NEIGHBOURHOOD FORUMS
Local residents are invited to come along and talk about 'Street Scene: Making our Neighbourhoods Cleaner, Greener and Safer' at the next meeting of the Sandwich, Dover Town, and Deal & Walmer Neighbourhood Forums.
The Sandwich Neighbourhood Forum is on Thursday 9 October 2008 at The Guildhall, Sandwich from 7pm. The Dover Town Neighbourhood Forum is on Monday 13 October 2008 at Dover Town Council Offices, Maison Dieu House, Biggin Street, Dover from 6.30pm. Deal & Walmer Neighbourhood Forum is on Monday 20 October at Deal Town Council Offices, High Street, Deal from 7.30pm. Doors open from half an hour before the start of each meeting with light refreshments and an opportunity to meet your local County, District and Parish Councillors and other Forum members.
As part of our ongoing commitment to ensure high quality streets and public spaces, Dover District Council is consulting Neighbourhood Forums on a new way of delivering street scene to help coordinate the work of a range of partners in the community, proposals for which are currently being researched. A brief overview and feedback from earlier consultation will be followed by in-depth discussions with members of the Street Scene Team to find out what matters to you, what the priorities should be, and how it should be delivered.
For further information on Neighbourhood Forums please contact KCC Community Liaison Manager Emma Carey on 01622 694599.

Thats an interesting one above about STREET SCENE. It should help to spread information far and wide, or at least further afield, as to what the new project is about.
There is some confusion out there. Must try to get to this one myself as could be very interesting. Ive been to a number of these meetings and always a very good turnout and very informative. They even give you a cup or tea or coffee as I remember. Ooh steady !!

This is the Neigbourhood forum that Chris P and myself sit on so it would be good that members of the public could attend, as we've said in the past we need people to listen and this cover's people from KCC, DDC and DTC (Monday 13th oct 6 30) and the street scene team this will be your chance to ask those question's

Yes an interesting point Howard. Im not sure how these meetings change things overall, but all sorts of opiniions are listened too and they may just count, and may just shape the future in some way.
There will be an interesing panel...fleetfooted Cabinet workhorse Nigel Collor, Chris Precious top Forumite and Councillor, Jan Tranter top Forumite and Councillor, Chris Allen -Head of the Community Safety Unit who is always good value, and perhaps more. Chris Allen will no doubt be able to address the point raised by Keef on the other thread, that we need to do something with loutish behaviour first before we can proceed with Street Scene. So it should at the very least be informative. Thats as I understand the scheduled lineup anyway.
This is a great initiative, and I think we as residents should at least give it a chance.
We do not know whether the big wigs will listen and respond, but unless we try we will never know.
However as residents we have our part to play here to. We need to go to the meetings, even if we only listen and observe, you don't need to have a point you want to raise, just get along there and see what is trying to be done.
We cannot expect DDC or DTC to do all the work without any input from us.
If we truly want to see change in Dover we have to get behind initiatives like this.
I will be there as long as I can bring my children with me.

Agree all round, we as residents should all be in attendance and take the opportunity to put forward our opinions, whats it they say, you have to be in it to win it!

I am sure that Jan and I will let things slip onto the forum after the meetings and, who knows, we might be able to get the shy and self-assuming Nigel to post on it as well. It would be good to see people there so that we had questions to answer.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

unfortunately anyone that has been at meetings about the buckland hospital and the proposed maison dieu hospital
will take a cynical view.
they were stage managed events designed to give us all the impression that our views were being listened to.

Very rare for me to attend these things.
I have attended two that terry N chaired, ( Terry was brilliant )the LRCF involving the W.C.C.P and the local police and PSO's and the public.
Alot was said by both parties with very little or no result.
I think the only people that gained from it was the over time payments.
I will try to make a point of attending on the 13th and listen.
I have a sneaky feeling that the outcome may be the same, talk talk talk talk talk and no action, That is what Dover is all about.
IF that is the case I shall NEVER attend one again.

sadly ian, i have to agree.
i have been to so many forums and meetings where the public servants eagerly take notes and manage to look keen.
i think that a nice break from the office, time off in lieu or overtime is the lure.

What do you say for going for a pint and a cheery chat then Howard?
We can put the World to rights with the same result..........nothing.
At least we will have had our AIRES and at the same time enjoyed ourselfs with no arguments..............and we won't promise anything. no overtime payments.
we can go on our merry way and look forward to the next meeting.

Well said Mandie and Colette.
I've sent round an email with info. and an attachment about it to all those I can contact via email (now around 1500 to 1600) so hopefully it will be well attended.
It's all very well people grumbling about the "street-scene" (and all that involves) not being to their liking, but it's unfair if you don't attend these meetings to listen to what's said and put your two-pennorth in.
They are also holding them for other areas across the District too.

i thought that it was the statutory duty of each local authority to keep it's environs clean, green and safe.
why is a stage managed meeting needed?

Well you make a fair point there Howard and so far the Street Scene aspirations are woolly, as nobody is making the Street Scene intentions all that clear. I would hope it would go further than the basic cleaning up scenario mentioned.
This meeting however should clear up those unanswered questions.
Rumour has it though, and here's the crux, that they have no budget for this initiative. So what they can actually achieve with no money is anybody's guess.

Your gess is as good as mine there Howard so why not come along and see, the problem is that if no one attends then no nothing will get done far better to have your say than sit on the fence and say nothing at all.

i have wasted evenings before with meetings like that jan.
i must repeat my earlier thoughts, the area is supposed to be clean and tidy anyway, that is what council tax covers.
meetings are never called for anything that residents can alter.

You are thinking of DHB and PCT. This one is DDC led (and OK that is probably not the greatest recommendation) and that means that they will be looking for Town Councils and other groups to fund and do things in their areas but if nobody comes to the meetings how are we supposed to know if the people want to follow through on proposals put forward? At the end of the day it is your money so can it hurt to at least have a say in how it is spent?
