13:2965880not a misprint, just read about a fish 45 years old that resided in conningbrrok lake near ashford has died.
he weighed in at 67 lbs 14 oz in old money, not sure what that is in european.
although named "twotone", he was nicknamed "marriage wrecker" as at least four wives left their husbands due to the obssession they had with catching it.

22:0765971old "two tone " made national news this evening, they interviewed an angler who had spent 50 hours a week on average for 6 years before he caught the monster.
takes all sorts, i worked with a bloke years ago that that was a keen angler. had a photo on his desk of him grinning at the camera holding an enormous fish.
i asked him how he cooked it, he was mortified, apparently the main thing is to catch it put it back then catch it again when it weighs more.

01:4065980It's a barbaric sport and should be banned. Far more fish die from fishing than foxes ever did from hunting. But because the plebs enjoy it they'd be up in arms if it were treated the same as the toff stuff. Class prejudice at its socialist worst.
Anyone taking the bait?

06:1565984Quiet news day?
You expect this sort of story on the local news (Meridian), not sure why it was considered a National item.

09:0065991Howard - "that must be some pumpkin you have there kath, do you enter competitions with it?"
Howard - this is the first year I have grown one of the special 'giant' pumpkin plants -
our village pub, Plough & Harrow, here at Tilmanstone, was selling the plants at £5 each for charity (Air Ambulance I think), and pumpkins will be judged on, I think, 31 October.
I read on an American website about growing giant pumpkins you shold allow 400-square feet (!!!) to each plant, so it can spread and put down extra roots from the branches !!
Mine has about a square yard of ground but is spreading its huge leaves around. Pumpkin seems to be growing daily, larger than a big football now. Have buried some raw fish heads near its roots.

09:0665992The sport of fishing:
Here is picture of our son on his FIRST trip into the Channel on charter boat. The blonde ray weighed 24-lbs and at the same time his friend caught one of 34-lbs, the latter I think was only a few pounds short of the record. Both carefully thrown back to live another day. Careful fishermen (especially coarse fishing, rivers) should not harm the fish, but of course many do, before they are thrown back.

09:0865993Hi Kath - I used to be a whizz at growing giant pumpkins for the Astley Avenue allotments annual competition. At the time the site was undersubscribed so I had two allotments and devoted a third of one to two plants. Space, compost and water, water, water (or beer!) is all you need. My best was 126lb but that's nothing to what some of the experts grow. Let us know how you get on.

14:1066184My goodness, Ray, that is a whopping pumpkin you grew at 126 lbs.
At present mine seems to grow daily, we keep watering and feeding it, will let you know how it progresses.

16:1066925There is nothing like sitting on a lake side on a beutiful sunny day and just relaxing.
I don't mind if I catch or not, but when you do then its a reward.
Some fishermen do go a bit too far.
A couple of piccies for Sid to come.
grass grows by the inches but dies by the feet.

22:0766975there were many anglers at the service that were distraught, they had been trying to get two tone on their c.v. for decades.
not my thing but i respect anyone that has a passionate ideal and goes for it.
