Received this yesterday, but felt it merited a wider audience - please do help if you can and don't forgt to book your tour.
"With less than three months to go before the Open Days, we are looking out for anyone who would like to come along and marshal the event. You are very welcome to come along for a few hours on either day, or indeed to join us for the entire weekend.
Marshals are essential to the success of the weekend, ensuring that our visitors have an enjoyable, informative and safe visit to the Drop Redoubt. Without marshals the Open Days simply could not happen.
If you feel you would like to help us this year, please contact our Secretary, Tracy Stewart on
secretary@doverwesternheights.org who will be happy to give you further information.
As the bat hibernation season is drawing to a close, we are pleased to advise that our monthly tours of the Drop Redoubt will once again be available as of Sunday April 17th. The tours are free of charge.
Anyone is more than welcome on a tour, so if you know anyone who might be interested, please feel free to tell them about it. You can book a place (or places) on the tour by e-mailing
secretary@doverwesternheights.org with how many places you would like, which date you are interested in and which time tour, either 11am or 2pm. Please be aware that places are strictly limited on these tours, so book early to avoid disappointment!
We would also like to make you aware that there are many stairs and uneven surfaces throughout the Redoubt, and unfortunately it is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. Sensible footwear is thoroughly recommended, as is a torch in case of an electrical problem.
Hopefully you should now all have received your membership cards. We would like to apologise for the delay in your card reaching you but would like to assure you that your continued support has already helped us this year with one of our biggest projects to date, the clearance of the North Ditch in conjunction with the White Cliffs Countryside Project.
Please email me at
barry@doverwesternheights.org if you have not received them yet
Planning has already started for the 2011 Open Days, which will be held on 11th and 12th June. Your membership card will give you free access to the Drop Redoubt, and as usual we will have re-enactors with their parading, drills and skirmishes as well as other historical displays to make your visit both informative and enjoyable.
Alternatively, if you would like to help us marshal the Open Days we would be very pleased to hear from you; simply contact the Secretary, Tracy Stewart on
secretary@doverwesternheights.org for more details.
Details of our work day projects and upcoming events and news can always be found on our website, and don't forget that as a member you are very welcome to join our forum. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any questions at all about the Western Heights or the Society, and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Heights for the Open Days, or indeed for any of our work days which take place on the third Sunday of every month.
Regards
Barry Stewart"
