Years ago, many actually, I would sit in front of the black and white box and watch Flash Harry in all his glory.
Later, I would tweak the fm tuner and aerial to get rid of the birdies.
Such is the progress that tonight I shall relax on my settee and for the first time with HD and 5.1 start what will be a great season. Yes, it's the first night of the Proms, Britain's greatest musical event.
Then in September, at the last night my telly will be festooned with streamers and I will let off party poppers. I shall revel in "Land of Hope and Glory" and "Rule Britannia". Ah! Such bliss.
Great stuff.

i cannot share you enthusiasm terry, i looked up the gig list for this evening.
elgar?
brahms?
tchaikovksy?
couldn't they get anyone good?
if the programme controllers looked up some of "britains got talent" acts, then i would consider watching.

With you there Terry, I love the proms, specially the last night. When Land of hope and glory strikes up I always get a lump in my throat!
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

The PC Brigade would love to be able to stop "Land of Hope and Glory" and "Rule Britannia"
as it is classed as supporting England - and therefore Xenophobic. Of course it's supporting England, it's our Country and we should be proud of it - that's the whole point.

Oy Howard I feel a slap coming on,I realise that Richard Digance is not everyone's cup of tea and yes it was a while ago when he was at his peak, but we are doing something new in this town. What disappoints me is that people have a go (not you Howard you can't help it) and say nothing is going on then when you put something on they either don't turn up or moan about the cost.
I have often said that you can put things on in Dover for free and people moan about it and want their money back.
For the record 75% of the top price tickets have gone 10% of the cheaper tickets there are 450 tickets are available and I have pushed and pushed this even though the papers have not printed the latest press release. again so 120 tickets have gone luckily we only need 130 to make it pay, then a different clause comes in and it splits the profits in Richard's favour.
So do we continue to bring new shows to Dover?
Yes I know there are weeks to go,but I would say to anyone who hasn't heard of Richard Digance give him a go he is very dry but is brilliant at nostalgic comedy
he will remind you of your childhood and his songs are funny.Someone who contacted me from Folkestone(and we have more people from there than Dover, isn't that awful) said that if this show was at the Leas Cliff it would be sold out by now.
It is over to you people of Dover to support it or lose it.....Rant over.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
Digance goes on Countdown, so is not past his prime in my book!! (Do you see what I did there...?!) He is, thank goodness, no Ben Elton, but is quietly wry. If he makes you laugh, job done, isn't it?! Get your tickets, people!!

I agree John.
You are doing a first class job with this event and the three stars are great performers.
I'm sorry we can't go, but if you send me an electronic poster attached to an email, I'll circulate it round.
I have no idea why the people of Dover are so apathetic about things that are put on for their enjoyment.
Keep it up - don't give up.

the people of folkestone are used to having star names in their town, not the same here.
john is trying to do the same as the leas theatre promotion team, not an easy task.
still a long way to go yet, i bet it sells out.
