Whilst at the William Harvey i was told by a senior member of the nursing staff, that Dover was offered a new hospital out at Whitfield about 17yrs ago but the council didn't want it. We have on this forum councillors both serving and ex who would have been on the council at that time. Would any of them care to explain why. Names were mentioned to me but let us hear what they have to say first.

During my campaign for a new hospital for Dover I received several letters saying money had been donated for a Hospital
to be built at Whitfield and the land to be used was where the Council Offices are built.They also said the money had been
used for another project.I would appreciate any information you have Guzzler.

Although guzzler I'm unaware of this you should take into account that over the years there has been a number of different groups with differing ideas on the location of any new hospital which had the affect of a stalemate

This has been told to me a few times, but it was well before Jean and I moved here. I don't know who was in power at DDC during that time, but if a "body" put the money aside, I'm sure they would have wanted to see where their money went.
Do we know/think that the money came from a private benefactor, an official body, or from the Government of the day ?
Not sure whereabouts in Whitfield it would have gone, but it is only in recent years (as far as I am aware) that landowners/farmers have sold off their land, they kept a hold of it until the price was right.
Maybe it's all Chinese-whispers ?

Howard,the only project referred to was a housing one somewhere in Whitfield.May be a local
historian may have more information.
With regard to the donation the Canadian Air-force were based in Whitfield and due to the excellent
treatment they received during their stay a donation was made.
Our home was also occupied by the Canadian Air-force,again it would be of interest for one of our local
historians to add to back ground.
Now we must await Guzzler`s input.

if the money from the canadian air force was meant to be spent on a hospital it would be morally wrong to be spent elsewhere.

If you speak to senior citizens many of them will tell you they paid into a Dover fund for a hospital or stuff for a hospital which also came to nothing
