20:5338533bad news keith.
a train to ramsgate, then watch the connecting train to margate leave.
that is how it seemed to me.
the time on the two trains together does not match the time standing on bleak platforms.
once you get to margate station it gets worse, try to find the bus that runs to the hospital, the walk is about 30 mins otherwise and no locals seem to know where it is to help you with directions.
even jimmy saville at his peak could not big up the service.

21:2138535The Thanet Loop bus runs from Ramsgate about every 10 minutes and drops outside the front door.

01:0038560The last bus to Ramsgate from Dover is at 1713 arriving at 1830.
The last bus to Dover from Ramsgate is at 1745 arriving at 1842.
The Thanet loop from Ramsgate runs every 15 minutes stopping outside the hospital.
Returning to Dover you would have to get the Loop from the hospital and get off at Ramsgate Station and get the train. Sorry, I have no train times.
I had the same operation as Vic over two years ago and had to go back a few times for check ups. It is quite a good service in the day, nearly every hour from Dover and the loop is every 7 minutes until the evening when it goes to every 15 minutes.
If you catch the loop make sure you get the correct one as one goes clockwise and the other anticlockwise, it can be confusing if you don't know the score.
If you intend to go in the evening it looks like the train to Ramsgate would be the best option and catch the loop outside of the station.

18:3538587You'll go down a fairly narrow road which is Queen Street and then tun right into Leopold Street. Ahead of you will be the harbour. As it's the terminus most people will get off! The Loop buses on the other side of the road are the clockwise ones which should be marked Westwood, QEQM and Margate.
Which day are you going?
