I see miliband labour party at it again.
They are expecting the British tax payers to pay for English lessons for Foreigners
This parties ability to blow public money on there imiergrunt pampering projects ,is astounding
Could you see Slovakia Lithuania or Poland dipping in to there tax money for something like this ?
We got old people freezing to death , and this joker is wonting to spend money on English lessons and translation

i thought miliband made some valid points in the article, particularly on the subject of some work agencies making sure that they only took a particular nationality and landlords making money by putting immigrants in substandard accommodation.

It is easy to throw other people's money around. I bet they don't treat their own cash like that or they would be personally bankrupt instead of merely bankrupting the country.

I tend to keep out of political threads, but will dip a toe in here. The only thing new in this speech is that it comes from a Labour leader. Others have been saying this for years, but anyone who expressed any concern over levels of immigraton over the last decade have been branded racist by Labour, the Guardian and others. Now he decides there might be a problem after all, and of course he has the answers to these problems. If this speech had come form a Tory backbencher 5 years ago, would it recieve the same reception?

the main point that stood out was a political leader admitting his party had got it wrong, took long enough to sink in though.
many of the reds who lost their seat in 2010 realised that at the time.

Brian - so they should donate their own money and not bankrupt the country donating other people's money.
That is the point, they spend irresponsibly time after time, get the country into a mess and then we are all in trouble. If they were more sensible and restrained, did not take too much in taxation, leave businesses to get on with what they do, stop spending and borrowing too much, then the economy would be in a better shape and more sustainable help can be given to those who really need it.

"...and ban recruitment agencies from seeking workers only from particular countries or ethnic groups."
As I posted yesterday on another thread with regards to a Dover salad factory, it is something that needs addressing.
If it is illegal to do so under current Law, then the Local Government should take notice and do something about it!

"He promised to ban recruitment agencies from advertising only for workers from particular countries and be tougher in enforcing laws designed to eliminate shift patterns which leave people working only with others from the same ethnic background."
'If we work hard, and we work together, we can build One Nation. that we have a fair nation not an unjust one; a connected nation where everyone has a stake, not a segregated one; a confident nation, not an anxious one.' "
In two and a half years, the Coalition has never even addressed the issue of work-agencies recruiting only people from one or a few countries, as if it were not already illegal under the anti-discrimination laws!
At least Ed Miliband has said something!
Better than all the shine we get: Labour did this..Labour caused that...it's all Labour's fault...
At least Labour want to DO something about it!
This Government does NOTHING!!!

Well many unemployed people in Kent speak English, Howard, perhaps work agencies will also recruit them and give them jobs in our many factories where currently no English is spoken.
