Am I the only Forumite who finds the recent decision to allow suspected Al Qaeda terrorists to stay in Britain absolutely bl00dy absurd?
Aparently they may face torture or worse if returned to friendly Pakistan! Well, thank God we are a Christian nation and are merciful in our judgements. Heaven forfend we should allow them to be blown up, or beheaded, or shot, or held captive for months/years. That would of course be uncivilised. Next we know they will be given British passports, a council house next door to Afghan hijackers and Job Seekers allowance.
"So, Mr Al K Eye-Eda where have you been looking for work"?
"Nuclear power stations are quite appealing"
"Do you have any experience?"
"No, but I figured I'd only last a day"

They'd hire them on the spot worried that it may break a european ruling, if this happened in France or Germany per se would the outcome be the same?

OH Sidney Sidney Sidney, where is your compassion brother.
Those poor little mites, having to live their life amongst infadels and getting free handouts.
Send them packing and let them face the music as they should.
Mind you it would be nice if they faced justice over here in some way or other.

Why not Howard, they judge ours and we fall into line when they snap their fingers.

no irony or sarcasm chaps.
just simply stating that each country has their own justice system and we should not judge them.

Well Sid... as normal I am with you...
the recent case of Garry Mann has just shown us how we try to uphold certain standards and yet other countries ( even our european neighbours) dont abide by them.. basic human rights yes.. and a fair hearing..and someone who speaks the same language as you in a foreign country so you can understand what is going on... you know, just the basics...
And if they are suspected terrorists determined to blow themselves and some of us up at the same time... enjoy Pakistan.. I hear they dont a fantastic cricket game!!
By reviewing what will happen to these murderers in Pakistan we are in fact judging another country's justice system, and deeming it inadequate.

Good article in Telegraph today by Philip Johnson on why we can't resolve this one in line with the substance of the above postings.

Howie
You might look to our cousins in Belgium and see them as our betters; I don't and never will.
True friends stab you in the front.
