Sky news, logging on here a short while ago, tells us that 27 year old James Bulger killer Venables, has been charged with being in possession of 57 indecent picture`s of youngster`s, and with distributing, 23 of them, via the internet. This can now be revealed as an Old Bailey judge has now lifted reporting restriction`s.

Slight correction Colin, pictures of CHILDREN, which implies a younger age group than "youngsters" I think. So, not satisfied with freeing a child killer, the state has loosed a child killing paedophile among us. Someone should be brought account for this. What of his child killing friend? What must the Bulger family be thinking now? Does anyone care as long as the prisoners rights are sorted? And those of us who cry for harsh sentencing, including the death penalty, get shouted at?

the whole reason for the for keeping details quiet was that the authorities believed that it would preclude a fair trial.
colin and sid
you have proved the authorities to be right.
Howard, I don't care mate. The best that can happen is someone removes this piece of scum from us permanently.

It`ll be very interesting to see if he gets another secret identity after this affair. He shouldn`t do, as he`s a 27 year old adult now. Bit of luck, someone will get at him and save us all the expense of keeping him. Lets face it, this is the Myra Hindley scenario all over again. 10 or 20 years time, he`ll be up for release, and like Hindley`s evil doings, James Bulger`s gruesome killing will still be fresh in people`s minds.

Howard, he had a trial and was found guilty of murder. He should have been incarcrated until old enough to face execution. The paedophilia bit is an added bonus we got for being so soft in the first place.

EVERY MOTHER`S NIGHTMARE. The Killing of James Bulger. The title of the paperback book I have in front of me. Venables, cold and calculating.

now being tried for child porn.
Frankly, most of us who have dealt with offenders and/or the "criminally insane" could probably have predicted this, but would have been out-voted by the social workers and psychiatrists.
But that's because they are THE professionals Bern, we are mere numpties who don't have a clue!
Hey! Some of us are professional numpties, I'll have you know!!

myra hindley was never up for release, you know it was just a government game that the incumbent home secretary plays every so often if they are being unpopular with the public.
quite simple, have it put about in the silly press that a mass murderer is about to be let out, then make a grand statement that they will stay in for life.
bingo, home secretary looks the business to the public.

I remember you telling me that before Howard regarding the above, and never really thought about it that way. Still, at the end of the day, it`s good to see that the hate is still there for these outcasts, and again I say, it should deter a few/alot of other`s from following the same path, but of course we`ll never know.

It really isn't a deterent - those who will do this will do this. Those who get caught up in things and are not the badboys like these guys deserve different treatment. And it isn't rocket science to tell the difference. I can tell within moments who are the badboys who I would not want living near me and who are the ones who will do ok with the right support and maybe meds. I have never been wrong. However, social workers et al have been.

Bern, yes you`re right regarding in your sense of the word deterent, but what I`m meaning is those middle of the road cases who may have evil on their mind, but a fear of getting caught and the consequences with the punishment at the end of it. Does that make sense?

It should, Colin, but the fact is that those who are going to do truly bad stuff will do it anyway - there are few middle of the road murderers! In practice there are the hardcore badduns and those who fall victim to circumstance and very few in between. The former will never be deterred, and for the latter deterrence isn't the point and wouldn't have made a difference. Someone with evil on their mind will usually act on it, sadly.
