Jeremy Clarkson controversial presenter of Top Gear and widely known for saying exactly what he thinks has upset a huge amount of people with his remarks on the BBC's One Show.
Here is a picture of Clarkson from last night - not quite with foot in mouth...
He said among other things about the people who were on strike yesterday....the list is longer but lets just use this quote..
"I'd have them all shot. I would take them outside and execute them in front of their families."
So far the BBC has had 4,700 complaints about this remark said in front of families during early evening viewing, and the list is growing. Although he says these things usually with a kind of joke bravado, his remarks were out of order here on the family evening show...and has upset those mums and dads who were striking, and many more people beyond.
Now the union UNISON are calling for him to be sacked. Even the presenters on the One Show had to apologise for its content last night thanks to Clarkson. This is even being discussed in the House of Commons as we speak.
Clarkson is a sort of buffoon..very much a lads mag type with overgrown late teen tendencies. He camps it up on Top Gear surrunded by boot-licking cronies who salivate on his every word. But once outside the lads mag world he just sounds like a buffoon. So it is unfortunate that the BBC brought him on to comment on more delicate matters last night on the day of the strikes.

A storm in a 'B' cup. BBC, that is.
-I imagine guests are booked well in advance. (yes, the strike has been on the cards for a while too)
-Other than motoring there IS only one reason to have him on...to be controversial.
-He began, as I have said elsewhere on the forum, by damning? the strikers with faint-praise before warming to his subject.
This particular time-slot has been dogged by poor viewing-figures and fairly poor presenters, a whole string of them. This whole baying for blood stuff is pathetic. The Unions can be relied upon for at least one thing (in common with the denizens of Westminster?) to never let a band-wagon roll past without leaping wholeheartedly upon it.

You have a point Martin. Let's make it; Braying. To mark it out from what the boy Clarkson said.

How boring would the world be if everyone trod the middle ground and didn't say anything that might be mildly offensive to anyone?
He does have some valid points in stuff he says and the comments about Help For Heroes were quickly forgotten.
Wonder how may people actually watched it that have compained??
Been nice knowing you :)

never seen the one show all the way through, a bit of lightweight early evening stuff, not really jeremy clarkson's natural home.
i can only think they invited him on to boost figures, rather backfired.
if i had watched the programme i would not have been surprised by his comments and not really offended as that is what he does.
the unions are making fools of themselves by taking his remarks as if he actually meant them.

Yes I believe the Camerons had him round to dinner..
Will be interesting to see how this one develops with the 24 hour news channels.
They breathe life into even the thinnest stories.

What possessed Clarkson to appear on the Mogadon show, sorry the One show, in the first place is beyond me. This type of show is popular in nursing homes but for most sensible folk who consider the BBC to be rather magnolia in most of it's output, it would have been missed.
Much the same with that dithering old retainer David Attenborough who should have been pensioned off years ago. Same old, same old penguins waddling, polar bears munching seals - we've seen this countless times on a far cheaper production budget and minus the usual environmental propaganda.

How true Philip..."There snow business like..."
And yet, who is there in the up-and-coming bracket to replace them?

What else would you expect, he makes a living from being an idiotic buffoon. I saw part of the programme and as per usual he thought he was being funny and clever while talking complete rubbish every time he opened his mouth.
PhillipP...
I hope you are as quick off the mark as David Attenborough when you are 85. BTW I am not in a nursing home and I hope I am sensible for most of the time.

without attenborough we would never have known how mummy and daddy grorilla made a baby gorilla the man is a living legend.
getting back to clarkson, i have been giving this some thought.
the b.b.c. is coming under fire for spending too much on big names, jez must be near the top, chris patten wants to be seen as a prudent director general.
all points to the door for mr clarkson.

Look at the BBC news website i can't believe how much airtime and discussions are going into the whole thing!!
Part of the feature was of him giving asked questions and give some off the cuff Clarkson type views in response, and he gave them in his usual way. Why anyone was surprised I do not know
There are better things to worry about in the world than a few comments make on a tv programme !!!!
