07:2027620well it looks like the lockerbie bomber is to be released today.its quite refreashing to see someone stick two fingers up to the yanks, and to do what they want to do,instead of being bullyed into submission by the yanks.

19:1227644I haven't changed my opinion about the death penalty, but I have revised my opinion about this Lockerbie fella, having listened onthe radio to a very articulate and distressed Mother of one of the victims. I realise that people say his conviction is unsafe - a good reason not to have the death penalty - but there are and should be appeals processes. If they are not used properly or if they fail, they need to be challenged properly. So: he has been convicted of murdering 270 people. I doubt if we would have released Harold Shipman or Myra Hindley, so why should we release this man? I believe in the compassionate approach, but it cuts both ways, and I realise we have lost sight of the compassion needed for the victims. Is it a coincidence that Libya has influence in the oil world?

As I said in other post, the Scottish Secretary has got this one badly wrong.
Its got nowt to do with sticking 2 fingers up to the USA And all to do with the deaths of all those people, many were American.
This has sent out all the wrong signals

08:3827675I think the Americans may be sounding off in public about how much a 'mistake' it was to release him but privately they will be pleased as it now opens the door to greater economic relations with Libya. They have invested billions and don't want to jepordise their position as a trading partner with Libya.
If they feel that strongly about the Scottish Courts decision they can always introduce a trade embargo with Libya or seek his extradition...trust me they will do nothing....

I think therefore I am (not a Tory supporter)

I dont dispute your comments on the USA governments view and reasons.
But don't share BRIANS view on the USA families who lost loved ones, there the ones who must be heartbroken over this Scottish decision
