a while back this land was being used as an overspill car park for rail commuters. then closed very soon after.
seems a waste as someone owns the land but not doing anything with it.

The land & building you picture Howard is owned by a private consortium who are developing the site jointly with Network Rail.
It is likely to be a multi storey car park with retail & other commercial options. It has attracted a government investment contribution announced some months back.

You beat me to it Paul.
It'll be good to see this area developed and the large family homes returned to their former glory.

any idea of timescale paul?
hope a car park does happen, would attract more people to the the high speed link and cure some of the parking problems in the clarendon area.
very optimistic of you roger, hopefully you will be proved right.

Could be some really good development to raise the whole area - somewhere to be proud of, not ashamed of.

Charlie Elphicke has elicited three written answers in relation to this development in the last few days.
Entries from Hansard below:
Charlie Elphicke: To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what assessment HM Revenue and Customs has made of the economic viability of its Customs House landholding adjacent to Dover Priory railway station.
Mr Gauke: HMRC has made no assessment of the economic viability of the Priory Court Dover landholding adjacent to Dover Priory railway station."
Charlie Elphicke: To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer for how long discussions have been ongoing between HM Revenue and Customs, Network Rail and others on the development of new parking facilities at the Customs House site adjacent to Dover Priory railway station.
Mr Gauke: HM Revenue and Customs does not own the freehold interest in the Custom House site (also known as Priory Court) adjacent to Dover Priory railway station. HMRC occupies the site with the STEPS PFI agreement. While HMRC has been aware of approaches to the freeholder Mapeley for some time, formal discussions have commenced only recently in February 2014.
Charlie Elphicke: To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether HM Revenue and Customs supports in principle the sale of part of the Custom House site adjacent to Dover Priory Railway Station for the development of new parking facilities.
Mr Gauke: HM Revenue and Customs does not own the freehold interest of the Custom House site (also known as Priory Court) adjacent to Dover Priory railway station. HMRC occupies the site as part of the STEPS PFI agreement and will consider any proposals from the freeholder Mapeley that affect our rights of occupation.
