What puzzles me is that we are constantly being advised to try and keep our kids away from the TV for too long (watching too many DVDs, playing too many games, etc) and yet in several towns the major new draw is.... a giant TV. Seems a bit at odds with the trend. Also, I know I'd rather sit in the warmth of my living room with a cool beer watching my HD set any day than skulking down the Market Square, dodging drunks and pigeons, to watch some crappy BBC-prepared newsfest. And to be honest, I like to go out into town to get away from TV and the trappings of home.

Let's face it, these big public TV sets are a lot more technically impressive than they are socially impressive. Now, what would be good is if they showed some late night X-rated entertainment, that'll pack the market square INSTANTLY and will be a bonus for all nearby pubs
