23:3715912an independent report on the above mentioned establishment has been published.
it runs to 92 pages and lists the "expenses" that are conned by certain MEP's.
it reaches the conclusion that over a 5 year period each MEP can stretch a million quiddies extra with adroit form filling.
no wonder the books keep being rejected by the auditors.
maybe vic should stand at the next european elections to take some standards of decency to brussels.

23:4715914Howard it is the Commissions accounts that the auditors will not sign off

09:5815924That is right Ross what you say about the auditors.
I am not really surprised about this revelation on MEP expenses. Imagine what the Commissioners must be raking off and its them who hold the purse strings.
The EU is certainly a gravy train and it needs a lot of serious trimming. Far better that we get out of that wasteful madhouse.

16:4315937Really Brian - after 12 years of Labour snouts in the trough, cash for peerages, cash for laws, and more 'real and substantial' sleeze than in 18 years of the previous Conservative Government, how can you possibly say something like that!

18:1715943Brian - there is nothing wrong under the rules of the House for claims to be made for second homes as MPs must have a base in London as well as their Constituency.
What does matter, of course, is that those claims are being made properly and are genuine. Anyone of whatever Party who can be shown to have fiddled their expenses in this or any way should be dealt with as severely as the law allows.
It may well be that the rules on claiming expenses, as in the case of the EU, are themselves wrong and is something that should be looked into. As far as I am aware the UK Parliament is nowhere near as bad in the level of salaries and expenses as the EU.

18:5215947i failed to read my own post ross, hence the inaccuracy.
the point i was trying to get across was that the parliament goes basically unchecked, the commission as you state has not had their books audited for a very long time.
in each institution the european taxpayer is being had over.

19:3015956barryw,personly i cant see the point that eric pickles claiming £91,501 for a second house/flat when he only lives 30 minutes from london.when you think gp lives 90 minutes away.along with other mps who live futher away.

22:3515974I believe you will find that Eric lives in Yorkshire and what you are referring to is his mid-week base.
He is a born and bred Yorkshireman who once led Bradford Council. He now represents Brentwood and Ongar, which is indeed about 30 mins from Westminster.

22:3915975And I think you'll find that Derek Con-way is not a Conservative now [he didnt get kicked out for having his snout in the trough though, he got kicked out for getting caught].

parliament is in london, his constituency is on the outskirts, why did he move to yorkshire?

07:5315982As I have said howard, Yorkshire is his home, he is a Yorkshireman, he did not move there, he bought a base in his Constituency, you yourself said its close to the railway line, something I was not aware of.

19:2916020If you stand as an MEP and you dont support the institution but take the money does that make you dishonest, a crook or a Tory/ Ukip candidate?

22:5616040Sid as you have been told before that is a matter for the electorate. Eurosceptic MEPs are repesenting the view of very many and the public can vote for them or not. It is called democracy. It is also honest, we need people in the European Parlaiment to expose its excesses and corruption and not a Pariament of yes men to the Commssion.
A chance comes again this June to vote and I suspect that there will be many more eurosceptics elected.... we shall see.

23:0016044not conservative ones barry, according to yesterday's independent our PM suspects that the BNP will gain seats.
others insist that the UKIP will make significant inroads.
the public see the main parties as lap dogs for the brussels bureaucracy.

23:0316046Look at the polls, Howard. The BNP usually gain votes from Labour. With, I suspect, no general election on the same day as there was last time and given the improved polling position considerable Conservative gains can be expected.

23:1016051Will the Tories be fielding candidates called Ben Dover again this time? Coz that's what they'll be saying to the electorate.
