But regarding the town centre, they're absolutely spot-on, sadly, aren't they?

The rot really must be stopped.

No they are not spot on Andrew, not spot on at all.
This kind of reporting cannot be based on an actual visit here, either staying over-night or for a few hours.
They even mention immigrants - we do not have a problem with immigrants, booze-cruisers or any other kind of miscreants, no more than any other Town in the Country.
This report should never have been given any publicity - none at all.

I beg to differ roger, have you walked from the seafront to the to the london rd lately, road works, empty shops, tourists walking around looking totally befuddled as to the state of the place.I now read in the dover express, that it is going to be at least another year before the legal problems are sorted out before the St.james development scheme can start. When are the district council and town council going to start working as a team to at least try and resolve Dovers problems.

Marek thanks for the tip on that as I had a look and found it interesting. But it was some kind of weird or odd coverage. They editorially couldnt make up their mind whether to give Dover a good kicking or not. The kept on showing the grisly dilapidation while telling us its good points. Slightly bizarre. They did show the good points about the area too, well they would have to for balance, but each time they did they tainted it immediately after with a shot of the closed abandoned pubs, the deserted shops, and the unrepaired buildings which have remained unrepaired since I moved here.
I think they wanted to give us a bit of a kicking but lost their editorial nerve and got a couple of talking heads to say something positive about the place. Interestingly both people talking were from outside of Dover itself...from St Margarets. The few locals from inner dover who were allowed soundbites all said it was ...well basically crap. Its odd when you see your own citizens saying it. Bit wounding...but there you are!
