At the end of the day..I only asked why the Market was closed, and that was directed at the
Town Team.
Really crazy to get such abuse.

The Market Coordinator posted on the Market FB page first thing this morning that the prevailing weather conditions had made it impossible for most market traders to set up their stalls this morning and so we were left with the doughty Dunfords alone for the day. I've just got online for the first time today, otherwise I'd have posred earlier

The market traders out in force this morning as people are looking for Christmas present ideas, a hardy bunch standing out all day in the freezing cold. The museum looks very nice after being spruced up.

High winds stopped the market from opening today but they hope to carry on for the next three days weather permitting.

A re-launch of the market is planned for the 4th of April with children's rides in addition to the stalls. Market Square is in desperate need of livening up with the bare planters, sad looking sailing ships and boarded up fountain to greet the first cruise passengers of the season. Hopefully the crown will be brought back soon to give the area some focal point.

Flogging a dead horse comes to mind. When have cruise passengers ever ventured into Dover town?

Everytime a port of call ship comes in Jack, thats why the blue buses are making a fortune and he's expanded his operation into the Mediterranean.

They come in droves with numbers increasing year on year. Normally it is camera out in Market Square to get photos of the Castle and what was the fountain, then onto St Mary's for more then finishing at the Town Hall. Many go straight to the Castle but still have a walk around on their return. This year they will be given maps of the Heritage Bluebird Trail to give further enjoyment to their visit.

Expected to see more traders than there was this morning with the clement weather. Next Tuesday sees the official re-launch.

The weather wasn't too kind for the re-launch.

Perhaps we should face the facts that the days of the traditional High Street Market are over along with the idea of 'market day' and 'early closing day'?
Whilst there is a growing market for high class niche markets, see Borough Market, Winchester or Whitstable for examples, the whole idea of all towns having a weekly street market where rural visitors would flock in to get 'hard to get items' no longer exists when almost everything is 'just a click away' delivered to your door.
Like with the 'Johnny Onion Man' and the peripatetic Knife Grinder of my youth, the world and retail have moved on.

Always be careful what you wish for. I believe a few thousand would-be shoppers are en route from North Africa by inflatable even as we speak. #WelcomeRefugees

It is good to see this, and these Traders put a lot of effort in getting their goods in and out, up and down.
It is a good show, and possibly requires more advertising and some music
