Drug and alchohol abuse, crime, violence, corruption, dishonest politician`s, where does it all end? At the end of the day, it`s all down to money, and yet it doesn`t always seem to get the mention it should from what I ever read or see. Is it survival of the fittest, or survival of the richest in this world? And who once said, "money, an unfortunate neccessity"? Always taken for granted, can there ever be a replacement for it do you think? For example, what would it be like if cash was replaced totally by plastic cards, and all money transaction`s became both accountable and recordable?
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.
Money only works because of the faith we invest in it. Materially, it is actually relatively valueless. I don't know what the alternative would be but when you consider money in its wider context, it provokes some interesting thoughts. Once we used to take what we wanted, perhaps killing a rival to win the food or territory. Religion came along to keep our inner animals at bay and money became the way to trade so that we didn't have to kill each other for food - we could simply buy and sell it.
I do believe that greed is a prehistoric instinct. Even modern politicians who are fiddling the expenses system are actually abandoning themselves to a very old, basic animal instinct. No matter what system you adopt to replace money, you will never replace or end the attraction of human greed. It's too old and too programmed-in to the human mind.

if money was the root of all evil, how would that fit in with people like myra hindley, peter sutcliffe and the wests?
additionally many people make a lot of money and become benefactors with some of it, bill gates for instance.

Actually, the correct saying from the Bible is "The love of money is the root of all evil" (1 Timothy 6:10). That's a completely different thing to "Money is the root of all evil".
It's the love of money that has infested the boadrooms of financial institutions across the world that has bought near disaster to the world's economies - proof, if you will, that the Bible has much wisdom in it. (Sorry, Rick!)
True friends stab you in the front.
Absolutely Andy
My favourite biblical mis-quotation came, I think, from Marty Feldman who said 'The wages of sin is death (but the hours are good)'. (from Romans 6:2)
Money and religion have a lot in common: both require faith in order to hold any value and both offer a means of controlling the masses.

#3 Hindley and co don`t come into the equation here Howard, they`re another case. Many other evil`s in the world not connected with money. I`m just meaning here in the sense that money is the root of most of all our trouble`s in this world, be it crime or corrupt government`s, and I`m not just talking about third world countries. Happy birthday Rick, older and wiser, though I wouldn`t add faith to give value on religion.
