Now here's a thing I don't know if any of you have caught this on the History Channel but personally I think that its pretty good. Now the rules and regulations that they have to apply to are quite strict(if you go on their website you'll see) due to it being along the Thames ect. Now my question to the Dover Forum Jedi's is if I wanted to do it along the seafront would I have to get permission?? Now all it would be is like beach combing or field walking. It does say on their website that this licence that they have to get to do it on the Thames states that they can only dig no more than 3 inches deep. You never know in this day and age of everything being so pompass that DHB would have to be told. Stupid I know but I think you know where I'm going on this !
Anyone know ???

Sort of but they just forage which is a better term really. They basically see what they can pick up or just dig what is on the surface whether it be old marble topped bottles to wax seals from medieval times whatever they come across. Just fancy doing a bit along the sea front .

Metal detectorists also work on the Banks of the Thames, for which you need a special licence.
You can metal detect on beaches (or at least most of them), but not sure how deep one is allowed to dig, and doubt if extensive digging would be allowed!
Bona fide detectorists do search local beaches I know.
Any 'treasure' found on beaches I think has to be reported to the Receiver of Wrecks (more info probably on their website?)

i have seen many metal detector chaps on local beaches, i suppose it is down to who owns the beach how strict they are.
i cannot imagine anyone from the harbour board rising from their desk and sprinting down to the beach to accost a scoundrel.

Was it a full tin of corned beef Scotchie? I suppose Vic could supply you with an industrial size can of beans to accompany your unusual find

The words......land mine come to to my mind here Mark.
Iv'e been a detector for the last 12 years, always had permission from the land owner only to find other people doing the same thing without permission.
Clubs frown on people that are not club members, private detectors frown on clubs. Crazy.
Never found anything valuable, but always interesting and I did watch the Mud larks. detector sat at the back of the wardrobe now and batteries flat, may take it up again one day.
