Vic, have a look at this.
I did hear of someone that cleaned their clock, simply by leaving half a cup of petrol in the housing overnight. The petrol fumes cleaned it, he left a tissue under the works and in the morning it was quite dirty from where it had dripped down. It might work if it just needs cleaning, a cheap method to try?

You’re welcome Vic, you’ll have to let us know how it goes then. I think the petrol idea is quite a good one, I guess the vapours dissolve any old sticky oils and grease etc. Good luck!

Sorry to hear that Vic. As a last resort, you could try the petrol fumes idea? It really sounds a plausible method of cleaning - if that's what it needs. Good luck.

petrol is a good cleaner but not ideal if indoors.A safer bet is something we always use,Contact cleaner, used for cleaning dodgy electrical circuits,it will clean anything and its cheap too.You can buy it up at the motor factors on Whitfield industrial est,i think they are called GSF car parts.A 500ml can is less than a fiver, really useful stuff.I,m sure my friend The Gov will second that in his line of work.

Mr Vic
as Mr B states Contact Cleaner or Brake Cleaner is very good at cleaning oils dirty etc.
You could also try lighter fluid which you can get from poundland. It is the gear you use in the old zippo lighters. Petrol based but it drys very quickly. Another good cleaner.
Good luck and keep us up to date please.
