10:357949Sorry but not living in the town, I have heard that there maybe a new hospital built in the town. I have gingerly looked at the forum but cannot find any details or rumors, as of yet apart from the Post Office Social Club Site.

16:327958Hello Paul, there are a number of threads on the hospital..off the top of my head try
"we are being fobbed off" says Cllr Hannent, its on about page 3 of the Letters Club
The general upshot is that we are scheduled to have a new hospital in the centre of Dover. Its a small affair of the 'cottage' variety as I understand it. Many wanted more but....you cant always get what you want. It appears to be something that will offer less services than Buckland, so not great.

19:087968i understood that it will offer a lot more services than buckland.
the original poster makes a very good point, i tried a few weeks ago to find information from the obvious websites.
absolutely no mention.
we get councillors come on here telling us about important meetings regarding the mystery hospital.
we never get a report of what was said at these meetings

22:027985As an X Male Nurse for 28 years i have to say that this Hospital is a farse. this will be a GP lead hospital and instead of GPs beeing in there surgeries they will be in the hospital. Now Neuro-Rehab at buckland is getting well know all over europe giving Prestige to dover that is going to Canterbury at some stage, loseing further prestige to Dover. There will be no 24 hour A&E at this hospital, and its been reported to staff that if any one talks to the press or other partys they will be sacked on the spot this is a fact as I still know many nurses at Dover & Canterbury. The Services at Dover Will be Blood Taking,Physio, Minor Surgery, Out Patients, a couple of wards & Xray and clinics all of which were at buckland, also said by sources that this hospital is to boost the Labour party so people will think they are looking after Dover I wait to be Proved Wrong.

most of the services that you mention are not at buckland now.

i am not an expert on planning applications, but my understanding is that the maison dieu site is considered a piece of p**s, whilst the alternative site at whitfield had so many complications, that work could not have begun for many years.

20:028026i still say whitfield is a better option rather than a flood plane.

20:278027the flood plain is a bit of a red herring, where flooding is possible, buildings are on stilts.
this was looked into at the time.

21:358032My mother lives on the opposite side of Maison Dieu Road to the proposed site and has been flooded out completely twice in the last three years. In between she regularly watches the water lapping at the top of her door steps, which would not be so bad if she did not have raised steps just to prevent the flat flooding.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

it is always much easier to find a reason to stop something than a reason to do something.
after half a century of inactivity, and our betters standing and watching, finally things are moving forward.
the new hospital(not all that we want), the destruction of the dross on the road to the docks, to be replaced by a selection of new buildings.
the cable car that will bring people in to dover out of curiosity.
we are getting many more sailings out of dover that suit dovorians in search of a day or two out.
the station is beginning to take shape ready for the high speed link that is only 12 months away.
there is still a lot wrong with our town, but a lot of things are changing for the better after decades of idleness.
