22:009691I have been told today that Wilkingsons are going to move in the old pound shop in the town when they are gone.

00:129693Well I hope this is one story of yours that's correct Vic because the Wilkinsons shop in Canterbury is brilliant. It will breath new life into that area of the town too.
How reliable is your source?
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

08:529714Brian its not the Woolies workers on this one, it seems its the Pound shop they are taking over(if true!) and yes indeed anybody is welcome to Dover particularly polished shops of repute.
But to go back to Woolworths. They are in dire trouble as a national chain, suffering extremely heavy loses and debt. It will be therefore unlikely that we will see a Woolworths continue in Dover. THis will almost certainly leave another unfillable empty hole bang in the centre of our shopping area. I hope it doesnt happen but its a distinct possibility.
As an aside, over the weekend it was revealed that there are now more than ONE Million empty homes now in the UK.

09:069715I agree Paul that it's not Woolies - yet; I thought Brian was thinking that the shop-workers at woolies could go to work for Wilkinsons if they do come here - there only seemed a couple of workers at the pound shop.
At one time I thought it a good idea to have Matalan there, but not being in a position to talk to them, I had to leave it.

11:009719The economic situation is certainly becoming worrying with a store such as Woolies in dire straits, Woolworths are a bastion of every high street since the early part of the last century, to lose such an established chain would be a knock to the psyche to say the least.
Let us hope that there is some truth in the Wilkinsons rumour.

20:119749the pound shop along from the charlton centre has a big sign in its window saying that they are not closing yet, new stock arriving every day.
that was before the chancellor gave his pre-budget report too.

08:599772Maybe their closing down threat was just that - a threat; an attempt to try and encourage people to shop in there.
Wilkinsons can only open there if the Poundshop closes, but no one wants to see any shops closing - do we ?
