And with all these takeaways, we haven`t any shepherd`s pies, steak and kidney pudding, corned beef hash, banger`s and mash, Irish stew.......... One big thing I notice when I`m hungry up at the hospital at Denmark Hill in SE London, (and I`m always hungry up there), every other shop up there is a food/fastfood shop, and I have yet to find a decent place where I can have a good traditional British meal, either eat in or takeaway. ROGER. Maybe you could get some food outlet`s to start dishing up our old favourite`s. I love Chinese, and bolognese, but above all, I love my traditional dishes.

If you love pies Colin - steak and kidney/mushroom/onion etc. and traditional meals, try Aminas in Biggin Street; the furniture may be cafe-ish, but that's what it is - good value too.

Thank you Roger. I have been in there before, whilst other times it`s been somewhat full, though of course, I don`t mind seeing that. What I am getting at here though is the very limited number of places to eat British, anywhere.

You are right Colin, but I love Aminas, as much for the smiles and kindness as the food! It would be nice to have a few more trad foodie places.

Thank you all. I shall give the above a go next week, and report back, with no mincing of words.

I hope Andy noticed I didn`t put the word `mincing` in capital`s above Roger. As he said, you`re not all cabbage`s on here.

Sage words said here (bad pun, sorry!) but word of mouth is everything. Supply good service, good food and drink and the word will get around. It's as Sid says, there are just too many in Dover for the amount of business available. That, and of course location. It helps if you set up shop in a place where's not too much in the way of competition.
Incidentally, The White Horse is now doing food on Fridays and weekends as well as sarnies etc during the week. Not tried the food myself, yet, although if the landlady is looking for a greedy guinea pig, she knows who to call!

True friends stab you in the front.

Thank you for above, and I forgot to mention, I had cottage pie in the Dovorian at 13.00ish today, tried Aminas first, but all the tables were occuPIEd. Not only the Dovorian today, but I have found that where young people are working on a Saturday, they never seem to be trained up properly with regards to making tea. Had to give mine back today, either the tea bag had been used too much, or too much milk put in. Very freindly staff though.

A good cuppa is hard to find - I like mine strong and hot. And my tea.
I must lie down for a while - risque twice in one day is more than I usually go for!
