Hi all, new to the site but know several members, I'm David of Dover Life magazine.
Sitting looking out of my office in Castle Street at the bombsite that was once MFI, anybody know what the plans are?

welcome david, don't know the answer to your question but someone on the front page wants to know who owned it before m.f.i.
maybe you can help?

No idea I'm afraid, the end building at Castle Street reveals an old sign "GARAGE", the MFI building covered it up.
Theres been an enormous amount of work, I cant believe somebody would knock it down for fun, yet nobody seems to have any idea whats going to happen.

Demolition work is all part of the preparations for the DTIZ (Dover Town Investment Zone). Those with long memories will recall that the work began in 1940 with German shells but continues with the more civilised assistance of professional demolition firms/
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

That corner is part of the St. James [DTIZ] Project & is in the process of being purchased from LIDL by DDC.
The expectation is that the site is likely to be restored to housing.

I think knowing DDC and the awe inspiring speed that it moves 2050 is the planned date David.

Well I'm sure Dave1 is on the inside so I'll take his answer as authorative.

If I was on the inside i'd tell people the truth about the DTIZ instead of promises that regeneration is round the corner. I'll take your answer as being "I don't know".

Love it...you must be the first person on the forum or in Dover to tell the truth and give a realistic date for the completion of the DTIZ project...

Thats only 30 years after the planned manned trip to Mars..

PaulW you will one day have to admit that DDC's planning department is not fit for purpose.

Chris you made me chuckle,
David, my place ( the one with all those white dresses.. ) used to be Dover AutoCar... so i can imagine there was a good little section of car dealerships along here before they moved out of town really. Oh and see you in the morning, more work comign your way.

Any planning department worth its salt will actively engage with other council departments, developers and citizens with a view to bringing about the visions for change which the politicians have developed and which the public have a right to expect.
Paul, ask your planning people about the long-planned demolition of a deathtrap building at the rear of 50 castle St and adjacent to our garden. Any reasonable council would have served a s215 notice on the owner long ago. Oh I forgot, DDC own it!

Would reckon the planning application for total site will deal with that Peter , but you know that already.
Don't think I will comment further without prejudicing legal matters concerning sites.

i must admit i do not see the link between the planning department and the d.t.i.z.
asda are the only company up until now that have stated that they would be the anchor for the project, the government gave the green light to the scheme.
asda seemed keen even holding a fashion show in pencester gardens a few years back.
i am not defending actions of d.d.c. but it was asda that reneged on the deal.

Standard excuse number 1025, section b,subsection 3a in the Councillors book of "how to get out of something quick", invoke the prejudicial to legal matters clause.
Even a minor politician is incapable of giving a straight answer.
