I saw this poor little thing last week, alas, no camera. Forgot all about him/her till this morning, walking along the POW pier again. Quite tame too. Anyone else noticed it, and what breed it is?

Only got one leg, and actively hops about all over the place. Hope no hungry sea gull spots it.

Colin, many birds of that particular kind inhabit the pier, I only see them there. They walk on the pier, and fly over the railing, then return. I don't know what they are called though.

I`ve seen them out and about Alexander, but they`re usually in pairs, and don`t stand still long enough for me to image them. Didn`t seem in any pain Jeane. I did wonder if he was born like it.

Stood still long enough for you to "sex" it Colin.
Ah poor little thing .

It looks like a young Oystercatcher, difficult to tell exactly. If the leg is an orangey red colour, I would say that it is an Oystercatcher. They're waders, and normally live on flat estuaries/bays similar to Sandwich Bay; they don't normally live on piers or in close proximity to man, preferring their own space.
True friends stab you in the front.
Well done all.

I was going to say it was a Rock hopper.
It's a sandpiper.
grass grows by the inches but dies by the feet.
I went down today and took the little bird a wee dram of whisky. I thought it might enjoy some hop-scotch!!

Having a closer look and the size of the beak, the bird in question is.......
A Turnstone.
I won't change my mind again, Honest.

I`ll ask the bird what he is next time I`m along there.
