This relates to a topic I have recently challenged DDC with. I am not condoning the habit of parking in an area where you could get a ticket nor do I begrudge the 'profits' generated by enforcement schemes (yes I know they are or at least should be ploughed back into the highways infrastructure) however there are many sources of information publicised / made available within the public domain advising where car parks are and the relevant charges applied etc..
My challenge is that outside of the highway code, council enforced restricted parking areas / zones seem to be a closely guarded secret with only Jo Public made aware of their existence by way of a meagre sign - which may or may not be correct / complete and more often than not are usually trashed / vandalised. Often these signs are located in the most obscure position and at the extremities of a particular zone.
In these days of geo-whatnotting and the availability of electronic information across the country should councils take accountability of publicising these restricted areas / zones making them available to download to satnavs / electronic maps as they do with car parks? This would have the potential to indicate in real time to drivers that they are within a restricted parking area/zone (if they had their gadgets switched on!) or make these areas / zones visible by other means...clearly the option of whether to park in that area is a decision of the driver but to be appropriately forewarned may be enough of a deterrent for some..

Yep makes sense. If government were to fund such schemes via their technology funding I am sure Councils would be happy to implement & operate those systems. Thanks for a sensible idea.

Paul,
The solution is all ready here with variable priced parking which I've been banging on about for years (FWIW This was my Summer reading:-

It's a real shame that UK plc is lagging so far behind the rest of the world in enmeshing technology and data analysis in planning . It's not difficult. Welcome to other people's present which should be our future.
Here's how it can work

BTW, how's planning permission for the horse troughs at the new Leisure Centre going?

As a unitary council [Milton Keynes]that has transport budget I am sure they were well positioned to fund it. Talk to your friendly existing & prospective KCC members. We'll be happy to consider.
Water supply for horse troughs a problem , does not bring enough income for Southern Water to connect.

Thanks for your advice Paul, Have just 'phoned Mike and he says he's spent all his allowance on a new bus-stop opposite his house and painting the road outside the Royal Hotel.

Had not heard this before from DDC.
So I checked

Parking Information and Accounts - dover.gov.uk
www.dover.gov.uk
Parking Information and Accounts. Free Parking Places; Parking Spaces in Dover District; Parking Income and Expenditure 2015/16. Parking income and expenditure 2015 ...

I also thought I saw on here, or somewhere, that there were parking strategies out for consultation a while ago.
This shows some output including considering apps but not quite the same context as Floogle4 suggested.

I think you may be mixing up comments that have been made about not making money from enforcement officers/warden for littering, dog fouling etc.

The original article is not that clever one would expect better from "The Sun", firstly local councils normally collect monies to do with parking and county councils deal with potholes and other road repairs. I believe that residents parking scheme dosh just covers the cost to local councils.
On a positive note great photo of Charlie, most of us had forgotten what he looked like.

Talking about Parking Charges, The new car park built opposite what will be DTIZ the automated phone line to pay for parking charges almost more than Double what the Signs the DDC put up displays! It cost me £1.20 for 20 minutes parking the other day and the DDC shrugged their shoulders when I reported it.
Bought a house in the south of France the locals we're Avignon of it

It is not all bad news if it was not for car park charges your council tax would be much higher.

Keith my dear friend you way out of touchWith. Government squeezing local council budgets the money raised by council taxes goes no where. The KCC budget gets stretched more and more and when we rely on KCC members to spend the allowance they are allowed on local schemes to do it wisely one calls that into question
More responsibility handed down to the lower tiers of which you are now a member. How wise will you be .You don't have a Cllr Watkins to keep you on check!,

Sue,
Nothing to do with being out of touch, the services provided(minimal) and the cost bear investigation.
Certainly I have always believed in decision being made as local as possible and Cllr Watkins has never kept me in check so that doesn't need replying to(but I have lol)
There is a concern of those that end up on councils as the major parties struggle to find candidaes and the results speak for themselves.
I'm still grappling with the notion that your party member (CllrBurke) part of DTC running the council is campaigning to abolish the DTC
Strange to sit on a body you want to abolish.
Anyway lets not go off message lol

Much like UKIP in the European Parliament, power from within possibly.
