20:3130902Lovely pictures Jeane. The first looks like a view of a sun from a distant planet. Has a certain eeriness about it. while the others show what a wonderful thing colour is, too often taken for granted.

21:1030905Thanks, yes that one does look eerie, it was a shot of the moon over the castle taken from Cowgate cemetery.

15:4831113Regarding Paulb`s award winning picture of the decrepit former employment office in the town, below is another fine picture in another East Kent bus album, from Ian Allan the publishers, with the employment office behind, in 1973. If you didn`t have these transport enthusiasts of years gone by, much architecture would have gone unrecorded forever. You won`t give a modern bus a second look, but current enthusiasts are photographing them still, but at the same time, recording the background scenery which is tomorrow`s history. When todays Dovorians get to our age, they`ll be looking back on today as their yesterdays.

16:0131117Great picture Colin - shows the building up very well.
Wish it could be done up to look like this once again - and soon.

16:0731118One day perhaps Roger, and it`ll cost more, as it`ll need even more doing to it.

18:5031396A trip to Hull in 2006. Perhaps being next to the sea, entices me to similar towns. The preserved SPURN lightship.

07:2031448A nice old light-ship Colin; bet that cost a few bob to be refurbished - grant-funding from somewhere I'm sure.
That's the problem with everything nowadays, they all need so much money: and yet many things that could improve the look and feel of Dover, could be done either for free, or very little cost - depends how you go about it and who you use.

09:2531454Thanks Roger. Is there no interesting old vessel about that could be berthed in the Wellington dock as a tourist attraction? All the ships and smaller craft that have been here, and there`s absolutely nothing.

08:1531554There used to be a Russian submarine in Folkestone Harbour for a while, but it got moved after a while and there was a little talk about could it not come here somewhere and be a tourist attraction - dress everyone working on it as Russian soldiers to adda bit of flavour, needless to say, it didn't make any progress.

09:3632746Colin an interesting pic there of the seafront showing it deserted. Sadly its like that all too often. Its a lovely location but somewhat underused apart from a handful of days a year. Did you notice if the cafes were open??

13:2732772That other cafe has been shut a few weeks now and never does as good as this one. Not that the other one is open that often. Do they have the same owner? I have patronised the above during the summer, but got fed up with the warm coffee. We did get a nice hot one when we took it back, but the next time, it reverted back to the warm coffee again. You had to drink it quick before it got cold. Lovely coffee though.

17:5532782i am sure that both kiosks are run by the churchill hotel.
not in their interests to open too long too often.

08:2832813Asking that question (very politely) many years ago, brought Mr. Pennington and myself into conflict and so with every ensuing tourism initiative I have initiated (Passport to Leisure, Group Travel, a DVD etc.) , I have tried to involve the Churchill, but he has declined they were all rejected by WCCTA too, so they didn't get started).
