But okay who knows what and where this is.... this looks a pretty tough one to me, but as we know we have loads of very bright sparks on here...

dead right and well done..didnt think anyone would get that one for ages.
I went there recently as I'd seen it featured on a recent tv programme.
...it sez here...
"People have worshipped God here since 1173. Over the years it fell into neglect but in 1841 it was carefully restored into the condition you see now."
Its interesting to note how the windows and doors are bricked up. Im assuming this is because of taxation, because wasnt it the case that there was a heavy taxation on window light here in the UK at one time. Not directly the responsibility of Gordon Brown !..not this one anyway, we cant blame him for this one.

However you may just need time alone there rather than the official Worship. Let me just tell you our tale.
Along with the Deputy Mayor herself, I went over there because I had seen it on TV. We were there on a sunday at midday. The place was deserted. No people, no clergy, no cars..I liked it that way. The sun was shining but it was a cool day and the wind was blowing through the trees. They rustled. Jan tried the door..I said "no chance" but to my surprise it opened and we were able to go in and have a look round disturbed by nobody at all. You do worry about churches being left open these days because of vandalism and what have you, but this one was nevertheless open and totally tranquil and very very old.
So whether its always open around that time I dont know, there is a good chance it is, unless we were lucky or something.email: dover7@msn.com - 10 June 2009 15:3023191Ah yes, the church at Barfreston. A magical, ancient, gentle place. Had a fabulous al fresco lunch with friends at The Yew Tree pub next door to it last summer.
All you could hear was the swish of the wheat and the distant baa-ing of sheep on the undulating chalk uplands on a balmy afternoon - with that lovely church as a backdrop.

Never made the pub though Andrew may be next time. - 11 June 2009 12:2323248You know the way it is..you dont know something or have never heard of something then as soon as you do know it, you hear of it again..and in yer whole life before you never heard of it.
No I havent gone off me beam but Andrew above mentioned the Yew Tree Pub and although I never heard of it before, apart from my trip to the church, up it pops again in todays Dover Express. There is an advert which states..
that its one of the Top 100 pubs in the UK
that it has an award winning menu
that it does 2 course sunday lunch for £9.95
...well not bad at all!! I didnt know it was such an illustrious pub, and right next to the church, must try it out.
And at those prices certainly sounds worthwhile.
