last week the new chief constable stated that frontline policing would not be affected by the budget cuts.
we now find that 60 recruits that were waiting to go into training have been told that it will not happen.
with natural wastage and no replacements surely frontline policing will be affecetd?

One of my nieces last week Howard, got a phone call informing her they`d be no recruiting this year. Very sad indeed, she passed the early courses last year, and was so keen. I`d have thought with the state of the place all round, some sort of increase in on the spot fines could make it more self financing. But then not being into politics, once again I`m baffled by it all.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

You've got to feel sorry for the recruits, to get so close. With the number of recruits slumping over the years and now done to none, I just can't see how this won't affect the quality of policing - after all, these were front line jobs they were going into, not managment. Kent Police has been told to save £20m, and I expect this will be just the start with clerical staff hit next. With massive cuts planned from staff in Customs, Immigration, the NHS and so on, there is going to be an explosion in the next year or two in the numbers of highly qualified, dedicated and skilled people joining the ranks at the Job Centre, totally overqualified for the half-dozen driving and care assistant jobs available in the area. 'Dumbing down' on CVs will probably become the norm for job applications.
I've just checked the Civil Service jobs database - there just ten jobs available in the SE (and that includes Milton Keynes!), the nearest is Medway and many of them are high management level.
I'm not political at all, just very depressed about the lack of future.
